All over place these shows are less and less relevant. More and more companies are using social media and the whole of the internet to bring new out. Combine that with Covid, the demise of the “Expo” is inevitable.

Prior to Covid, Sig would release new models far in advance of shot show anyway.

Vendor attendance on SIG’s level isn’t to sell product; it’s to support the industry.

Also when a vendor stops attending events it can imply trouble within the business, but I don’t think anyone will suspect that of SIG.

No surprise. I’m sure more of the big dogs will pull out too. Won’t be surprised if SHOT is cancelled.

SIG's got its plate so full Bubba Obeece couldn't clean it off. The issues with SHOT are more based on it being a show for buyers, not the public. In fact they tightened the requirements to clean out the hummers and thumbers posing as "buying agents" but who are mostly there to clog the aisles and grab the swag.

Covid has affected things with FTF trade shows but with the M17 contract, the P365 selling within weeks of it's born on date, etc, SIG being at full production capacity and now, moving it's HQ's to TN, why go at all? It's not a public exhibition for potential owners - never was - it was for the chains and bigger LGS to attend with their purchase orders. And they are already getting their prorated share of production based on previous contracts.

SIG won't be the only one to bail an expensive trip for no increase in business. They're at full capacity as it is and they aren't the only ones.

Will there be future expo's, sure, for a long time, its going to take the comulative effect of business changes which will make them inefficient. So far, not so much.

The NRA show has exactly some of the same issues, and it IS a public show. They say there were too many companies cancelling, but ?? I probably trust their press release more than SW Airlines cancelling flights in FL for weather.

I've seen the same thing happening in a few other sectors as well. Like @phlyers13 said, these shows are becoming irrelevant. It used to be that these shows were the "big" deal, where manufacturers would wait to unveil their products. Now, there are so many virtual platforms available, year-round, for very little cost, that it makes it hard to justify waiting for one time of year to bring your new products to market. In addition the cost of having a booth, travel and lodging for your employees, wining and dining industry schmoozers, etc. can add up to a huge amount of cash, really fast. And then, you add in the fact that attendance at many of these events isn't what it used to be (and this was dropping off well before Covid). I'm not surprised at all. Shows are a dying model.

I do enjoy when SHOT comes to town. Go down Las Vegas BLVD. or to Fremont St. and it looks like a 5.11 store vomited on everyone in sight.

Now, I know it's not the same as SHOT but in August we had the annual Star Trek Convention at the Rio Hotel and Casino. It was four or five days long and I don't think it even hit 10,000 people in attendance for the week. I don't know if that was because of the COVID stuff or the fact that people just don't want to waste their disposable income on that. I could see SHOT drawing a smaller crowd this year as well.

With social madia these days is way cheaper to inform the world about your new products than restricted events like this...

Or either way behind in releasing or not releasing what they promised at all 😂.

I’m still waiting for the multi-caliber MPX.

Where did you hear that Sig is moving to Tennessee? Smith & Wesson is moving to Tennessee.

It’s happening in the furniture/mattress industry too. Many large mfrs have pulled out of the show they have there twice a year. Retail furniture and mattress stores are having a hard time keeping their stores full so they do t feel the need to go look at product that won’t be available anyway.

Around here (SW Florida) it seems Sig is doing more promos at LGS’. Within the last 3 weeks 2 shops within 25 miles of each other had Sig Day. One coming up is gonna be a 2 day event. They don’t bring everything but they do bring the newest stuff to check out. Kinda nice.

You're never getting a multi-caliber MPX. the market has dropped out from below .40 and it was barely there in .357 SIG.

I'd much rather go to my LGS for an afternoon for a local Sig dealer event than travel to Vegas.
