I tried looking for this news story on sig talk and only found a article on what happened? Does anyone know if this is still a problem that people are having with there p320's or an older story?? I do have a sig p320 and it would concern me quite a bit if this was not rectified when I purchased my gun!! Any info would be greatly appreciative! Thank you

I have a P320 from before the "Voluntary upgrade".
After a while I called Sig.
I asked the Rep about it.
He stated, that they did many tests and only and if only dropped pistol at a specific angle on the back left side of slide it has fired, so Sig decided to do testing and made some changes until they were sure it was safe.
I asked how many sent their pistols back for upgrade and he told me less than1/3 and the offer does not expire no matter the owner.

I decide to send in my P320 as I wanted to do some personal upgrades to my desires and I wanted all new parts to fit without issue.
I sent my P320 in and got it back in less than 10 calendar days.

Sig and other have videos to show you exactly what they modify.

Thank you very much that is very informative and will help me decide what to do next! I will definitely check out those videos you mentioned about the VOLUNTARY UPGRADES. Do you have any info on what kind of site to look for or should I look on Sigs website??(like youtube)

Look at both sig and youtube.

One thing, if you decide in the future to do upgrades you should get upgrade now just in case.

First hit this SIG site, and enter your FCU # to see if your gun needs the upgrade. There are 3 visible signs on the pistol, one on the slide, two on the FCU.

Don't worry about the gun. These incidents where the gun "went off" in the holster have nothing to do with the "voluntary upgrade" and have been under questionable circumstances. We don't know the whole story of what was happening when this incident occurred. We are in a litigious society full of ambulance chasers. There are so many of these guns on the market and in use by many law enforcement agencies and multiple military services, and only a few cases where it supposedly "just went off".

Get the upgrade if applicable, and otherwise remember, a gun WILL "go off" if the trigger is pulled by you or something else - intended or not...

The upgraded P320 is safe, people aren't.

Can someone post the link to the video from the guy proving the improbability/impossibility of the gun going off? I've forgotten his name and youtube channel. That video would help the OP.
The most recent guy, George Abraham I think is his name, claims the gun was holstered and in his pocket. My first question would be, what holster is it? I tried to find out but none of the articles I read specified what type or brand of holster. I'm a skeptical person by nature and another question I have is...how do we know it was actually holstered other than his word?

Ok, now for the flip side. Although I have no worries about the safety of the P320 (I own 5), I will not carry any striker gun IWB. Especially since I carry appendix, a light trigger with a mostly cocked striker makes me uneasy. I'm a logical person and I know the odds of it firing are pretty much nil, but at the same time, the thought of blowing my junk off is enough to give me pause. My main carry guns are the HK P30SK and the CZ PCR...it just gives me comfort knowing I can ride the hammer with my thumb as I holster.

Ditto on that, I’ve kinda evolved out of wanting to carry my 320 once I got into the 229 DAK’s.

Likely when reholstering and not paying attention.

Agreed - how many of these pistols are out there? And how many have had problems? Very small percentage. Problems are always amplified by the fact that we DO live in a society full of people who don't want to take responsibility for themselves or things they do wrong AND that there are so many ambulance chasers out there.

That being said if I had a pre-upgrade P320 I would send it in for the fix. Its free peace of mind.

Are we really doing this again?

What's it been - a week, since the last thread beating this dead horse?

Look at the videos by Sig Mechanics https://www.youtube.com/c/SIGMECHANICS. There is a video of pre vs. post upgrade analysis and a separate video of the internal safety mechanisms (among others). The upgrade addressed the drop-safe issue. As others have noted, the gun "going off by itself" is a separate issue. As the Sig Mechancs video explains, 3 mechanisms must fail in order for the gun to fire without the trigger being pulled. Based on my experience and research, I am confident that the gun will not fire unless the trigger is pulled. These "going off by itself" stories, in my opinion, must be the result of something moving the trigger just sufficiently to disengage internal safeties and release striker. The standard FCU does not have a manual safety to prevent the trigger from moving - anyone purchasing a standard p320 has to know that and factor that in to their purchasing decision. That is the purchaser's responsibility, not Sig's (again, in my opinion). Personally, I wouldn't carry any pistol with a round in the chamber unless it had a manual safety that prevented the trigger from moving (or disengaging it). That is just my personal preference/risk tolerance, however, and everyone has to make their own decision. There are P320 versions with manual safeties. Moreover, standard P320s can be converted to manual safety versions. So that option is always available.

I would get the upgrade - there is no downside and plenty of upside and it is free. Bottom line, the P320 is safe, but the buyer has to evaluate how they intend to use it, their own risk tolerance, and understand how it functions in making their purchase decision.

This!

Plus keep in mind OP that just just because someone is LE or mil doesn't mean they are proficient with firearms or safety. Typically means when they mess up they will lay blame to some or something else because of ego.

WE aren’t doing it but it seems they are with another lawsuit and another instance

As mentioned above though I still do not recall any of these cases detailing exactly what kind of holster was being used.

While I am always skeptical of anti-gun lawsuits, let me take this opportunity to pointlessly say, "Glock Safe-Action Triggers for the Win." :)

I think this is a case of drawing conclusions from giant leaps in logic. Like people avoiding buying red cars because they get pulled over by the police more frequently than other color cars. They believe police sit at intersections just waiting for a red car to drive by: "Ooh - it's RED. GET HIM!!" Maybe... just maybe... the people that buy red cars are people who like sporty/fast vehicles and drive faster than other people.

So how these SIG pistols were carried, drawn from holsters, and the safety habits of the carriers just might have something to do with this scam lawsuit.

It's only happened to LEO and the jury is still out if the gun discharged by itself. It has never happened to civilian so thinking cops must have got something stuck in trigger.

The one police woman had gun inside purse
