Sig Red Box?

I am familiar with what Red Box means but were there ever Sig pistols sold in Red Boxes that were flat out new (not CPO/reconditioned) if you go back far enough? Were there instances were red box didn’t mean red box as we know it today?

Yes, My P228 Triple serial number German Proof Mark made in 1989 came in a Red cardboard box.Not sure what other models or years came that way. If you can find the article by Sigtalk member 12131 about the P228 there is lots of info concerning box colors. It runs about 70 pages. It was originally posted on the other green Forum. There were also Green Yellow and Gray boxes too.

My day is now complete; learned something new. Thanks for the insight!

ETA: no sarcasm intended; genuinely appreciate the info and reference.

Ahhh. Very helpful. So there were red cardboard boxes that were not CPO. I am looking at an old P230 which seems to have a red cardboard box.

I would guess the Red box is not for a CPO since it is a P230 Especially if it is a smaller box, I also have a CPO P229 that came in a Red box but it is much larger and has thicker cardboard.

😲 I thought that was like sayin “Voldemort”…the forum which must not be named!
I hear saying “The Green Forum” is OK :sneaky:
Have a Grey with White cardboard box for a P230.
Can you get a picture of the red box? And label too?

The red box is correct factory original box for the early P230.
Pics are not mine.

That’s one good looking P230! This is making me want to get mine out for my next range session.
