Sig P229R serial number lookup

1196 Views 27 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  12131
I was able to buy a couple of late model Sig P229R .40 S&W police trade ins cheap. I was curious of the date of manufacture for both; both are all US made, not German Frame model. First one starts with serial number ADU095##; and the second with serial number AGU019##. Any info on both would be great.

AGU around 2010’ish.
Where did you find them?
Where did you find them?
I bought them from Sportsman Outdoor Superstore. They were DA/SA models with one magazine listed in “fair” condition for $429 USD. I got them, and except for the grips being worn, burned out Siglite Night Sights, and left handed magazine catches, they were in very good condition. I completely tore them down and the frame, slide and internals cleaned up nicely. I installed a combination of parts, from Armory Craft flat triggers, SRT packages, Sig Armorer Mainspring strut with Armory Craft 17lb mainspring, and Hogue G10 grips. I forgot to order a short E2 mainspring seat (thought I had two spares but only had one), so one of the guns has the old OEM factory mainspring strut until the new aluminum one from Matrix Precision arrives in a few days. That gun will be a dedicated .357 Sig since I bought a new complete Sig P229 .357 Sig US Secret Service overrun. I will post pictures when both are complete. This will go along with my other two P229’s, a 1995 AF120## model that was my old duty gun, and a AM version that railed frame was also made in Germany. I have about 49 .40 S&W/.357 Sig 12 round magazines, so I am good for all four guns.

The only thing I might switch out on both is the Armory Craft DA/SA Skeletonized hammers when they come back in stock, and maybe send the spare .40 S&W slide to be milled for an RDS.

How much will you have invested in each P229 by time you are done?
Also, what year was the US Secret Service built and when did you acquire it?
The worn grips would likely give you a close proximity of their DOB, unless they are Hogue Rubber Grips. Never the less, a call to Sig CS should get you their DOB, as both would be after 2006.

the .357 Sig SS overrun I bought brand new a year ago from Texas Armory. There was not a date on the box. Except for the new complete slide upper, usually the cost associated is less than a new factory Sig with OEM parts.

willard, looked inside grips and I did not see any date stamp when they were manufactured

If they were polymer 2 piece Sig grips, unless recent replacement (5 years?), they should have had the mold marks...

Ya, call SIG. My AGU is 2008. Willard is right about the mold marks on the grips, mine were 07 and 08.

Nice. Is it DA/SA or DAK?
Does anyone know which year Sig switched over to the longer extractor?
The mag release is "ambi-sided", you can switch it to the other side.

Already done; the Sig P Series of guns are pretty easy to work with

DA/SA so money saved

The original E2 models, officially introduced at SHOT 2010, had the long externalextractor. .

Probably replacements, and not original, but Sig should be able to give you their date of manufacture.

I thought the E2 model was introduced in 2009 and discontinued in late 2010 when all calibers of P229 standardized on the long extractor slide and ".40/.357" frame with the wider mag well opening.
^^^^ We all got a sneak peek, and the press started talking about it in late 2009. But, the official introduction was at SHOT 2010.
