Sig P228 Zurich Unissued PW Arms Value....

873 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  12131
So I have a PW Arms Zurich LEO that unissued. I bought it years ago from Dan's Ammo. It has the standard PW Arms import mark. It has the K Kote finish Some is offering me a trade for it but I have been out of the classic P series world for a while. So I am looking for a little help on putting and $$ value on it if I sold it out right and then a trade $$ value. I know the PW Arms import mark effects value but I am not sure how much vs the Zurich Canton because any gun with that had to come from a secondary importer not Sig directly. I have the box manual, test target and the correct mags. Thanks in advance.

Q can probably get you an appropriate quote for that. Hang tight!!
Honest assessment follows.

First, it looks like a very nice one (1992, based on the serial number). Does it say K-Kote on the box? Because it appears refinished to me, although it does look like K-Kote. Have you fired the gun at all? If not, the barrel hood appears to show a lot of wear, a lot more than from just occasional racking. And, unless those are dust particles on the front strap, there's plenty of wear there, also. So, I'm not sure how this was an unissued gun. But, let's assume unissued gun with original finish, then how do you put a ball park vlaue on the package?

Well, some folks put a little premium on the Swiss police trade-in guns. Others do not. I'm in the latter camp. And, the "PW ARMS REDMOND WA" and the "GERMANY" roll marks are done quite poorly that will negatively affect the gun's value, imo. But, who knows, some folks might not even care. So, overall, I would probably price this similarly (maybe a little less) to a like condition complete package "W. Germanny" P228 from the same era. Check out these P228s sold recently on GB to give you an idea.

There are several former Swiss LEO P228s on Gun Broker, lately. While I haven't paid that close attention, it's doubtful they are "unissued", but it can give you an idea, of what Americans think of their collectability.

12131 is correct, while many appreciate the Canton Crest, the importer marks are rather imposing, overall.

BTW, don't use the ones being listed by HI*LLC as price guide, because they do not reflect reality. They all look like [email protected] but being listed for $1500 to $1600. Unsurprisingly, they've been stuck there for quite some time now.

12131 is correct, it's not how much the sellers are asking, but how much buyers are paying!

This is right along the lines I was thinking. I bought this guns from Dan Tobin of Dan's Ammo. He is the East Coast sorting house for PW Arms. Thousands of Sigs have come through him over the years. I have bought many of them here and there. IIRC this is the info Dan gave me when I purchased it. I have always known Dan to be a fair dealer and a man of his word. To me this is an odd variant which as you stated has more appeal to some and less appeal to others. It has been shot by me. I bought it as unissued but it has been used by me. I buy things to use them. I used to shoot a lot of Sigs but these days not so much. I still own a few P series guns but will not buy a new Sig offering. That topic is for another thread.

I have a trade deal semi-lined up and I just wanted to make sure I was not off base. When I make a trade I want it to be fair and advantageous for both sides. Having not looked to purchase a P series Sig in years due diligence made me ask the question. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.

I looked at those. I am no P228 expert by any stretch but it seems a good bit high to me. Being a retired officer I may be inclined to pay a little for a police marked gun but not 3 to 5 hundred more, in my opinion anyway.
I am missing a 227 and 228 for my P2xx series collection so I have been shopping for those for a little while.

This little important detail that was not in the OP could have saved me some typing, my friend. ;)
