Sig P220 Elite .45: Should I buy it?

5621 Views 64 Replies 43 Participants Last post by  Lovemysig45
Hello All, especially you P220 owners--and Happy Flag Day 2022.

I've been researching and looking to add a .45 DA/SA P220 to my Sig arsenal. Opinions on the 220 Legion are split, and they don't really satisfy me--and I prefer the looks of the all-black 220s, which I have rented and shot with great accuracy. I really like the way this pistol feels and performs beautifully, just like my 226 MK25 9mm.

Today I walked into my favorite gun shop (which has always served me well) and found a brand new P220 Elite with its standard SRT and two mags for $999. (Other specs are the same as on the current Sig Sauer website).

Should I go ahead with this purchase?

Do those of you who have extensive experience with both the P220 Elite DA/SA and the P220 Legion DA/SA have any comments or advice that would suggest I get a P 220 Legion instead of the P220 Elite?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom>

There is no material quality difference in any P220 models. The $800 model is made to the same quality standard as the $1200 model. Same quality level on the frame, slide and small parts. The only difference between them will boil down to “the features” to include the color or type of finish, the type of grips, the type of sights, the type of grips, the type of trigger, etc. This applies to pretty much every gun manufacturer in the world when it comes to the majority of guns they make. They are all made by Steve who assembled the parts from different bins that were all made to the same quality level but differ in the areas I mentioned.

BUY IT! You will regret it if you don't.

The P220 is my favorite 45acp pistol of all time. I have a WG, Scorpion Elite and an SSE Carry. All are absolute great shooters. Of the three the SSE Carry is my favorite. I really like the SRT triggers. It works great when doing double and triple taps practice/training.

You've satisfied the 3 criterion for a purchase: means, will, and opportunity. DO IT!!

I have P220's in my stable, including a Scorpion Elite and a Dark Elite, with no regrets whatsoever.

Buy it quick. The next time you look it will cost more. Several months ago I paid 299 for a Ruger LCP Max. Now they are 400.

The P220 Elite is great, and that's a reasonable price. The frame is identical to the Legion except for the finish, so if you don't care for all the frou frou it's a good way to go.

What Hollow Point said, and buy it quick before it's gone! Whenever I see something I've even waiting for, especially a gun, I don't think twice because someone else might get it.
My P220 10mm is my favorite of all my guns and I would only regret it if I didn't buy it when I did.

At $999 seriously consider it. I have 5 P220s of which 3 are Carry Versions which are my favorites. My Dark Elite and Legion in Carry are definitely my top 2 favorites.

If you like 45, then you’ll like a P220 no matter the version. At one point I had sold all my 1911s because I liked the 220 so much. I’ve since bought two 1911s just because I missed em.. still prefer the 220.

It has the same undercut beneath the trigger guard?

Exact same frame according to website. Odd, I thought that was one of Legion differences was they deepened the undercut, but maybe that is just the P226.

I have purchased a Carry and an Elite within the last four months. I love them both. If you want a black Legion you'll have to go with the LE version. I've been looking at the LE Legion for a couple of months now. Not because I need it. I just sold 3 P320s so now I can rationalize the purchase. I think this one will be my last one 😁

I own LE versions of the P226 and P229 but I’ve never seen an LE version of the P220. Do they definitely make and LE P220 Legion?
