Just looking for some opinions regarding carrying either of these. I feel like the .4" extra barrel length isn't that significant, Since the grips are the same size I feel like I wouldn't even notice the difference. Anyone have some real world experience with the carry? I have 2 p220s one is the standard size and one is the 5" 10mm.

The 220 full sized barrel is 4.4". Carry version is 3.9".

Half a inch isn't much. But Carry is overall smaller.

If you get the P220 SAS Carry version, you will have edges of slide and frame rounded off to enable easier draw.

I like the carry, it has a very natural balance and points like a laser. I like the full sizes too. If I had to choose, I would get the full size because I want the extra barrel length and the carry slide length doesn't reduce the overall size by that much. If I were going with one exclusively for carry, I'd probably get the p227 carry model and have a few more rounds.

A smaller/shorter/slimmer grip will offer better concealment than a full-sized one. Barrel length is almost always going to be concealed, unless the barrel is 3" thick.

What are the grip lengths on the P220 FS and Carry models? If they end up being the same size, there really isn't going to be much of a difference when it comes to concealability.

I believe you want either the earlier P245, or the later P220 Compact which has the abbreviated grip. The P220 Compact even had a SAO version.

My EDC was a full size for a couple of years, then I went to a 220 Carry, then a few months ago I went to a 220 Compact.

The carry conceals identically to the 220 full size because the grip size is the same. I saw no difference whatsoever in accuracy or anything else between the full size and the Carry.

The 220 Compact that's now my EDC conceals much better than the full size or the Carry because the grip is shorter. The price you pay for that is 2 rounds as the Compact is 6+1. I feel that's a fair trade for the concealability.

I have the p220 Carry Elite in SS. I don't carry it because its too darn nice (as well as $$$) and I have other dependable choices for EDC I can tell you its large and heavy enough for a carry pistol. I don't know about the full size 220, but if you plan to make it your EDC I'd go with the "carry" version. Good luck!

The carry and the regular P220s share the same frames (and magazines) so the only size difference between the two is the carry model's .5" shorter barrel and slide length.

Due to differences in the contour of the slide both pistols actually weigh exactly the same.

I find the slightly shorter slide length of the carry is more comfortable for me to carry IWB while seated in a car and overall, concealability for me has been excellent under a slightly over sized dark tee shirt in a horsehide Super Tuck.

I've never been able to conceal the full size grip, but that could easily be a holster selection issue. The carry length slide had zero effect on carry-ability for me.

I was able to conceal a P245, and that was my EDC for a while. Both my carry and P245 have gone down the road and I only have the full size now, and it is a range gun only for me.

Would you go into a little more detail between the carry vs full length slide and BBL? I have a 220 carry elite dark. I have been considering buying the full length elite conversion kit from sig. Does the .5 inch provide noticeable accuracy? This gun is not used for CCW.

If the .5 in does give signigicant accuracy, please let me know. If I do purchase the 4.4" elite kit, the original 3.9" will probably be sold.

I sport the Carry P-220 SS Elite and find myself a perfect size for everyday carry. I switch from my P225 and Elite to what Im wearing most time. Other days either my P320c or my Model 10 38spl. Depends on what you feel and clothing, but the P220 carry is a great ...Good luck

I'm not a fan of rails on my carry guns so my p220 sas carry works well for me.


However, if you are looking for a p220 that conceals better I'd look at picking up a p220 sas compact. The shorter frame will make a bigger difference in concealment IMO.

I will ditto this. While my EDC P320 has the rail, none of my current metal frame Sig's have rails and I prefer them that way. I have a P227 SAS that is really nice. The extra rounds and the melt make it a nice carry gun when I am so inclined.

This is totally my opinion (that means it and $4 will get you coffee at StarBucks); I have had multiple full size P series guns and they all feel like too much for a EDC.

Now I am a big man, 6'6", so I can CCW my KSG if I really wanted to, but to me, the full size P series guns are best suited to OWB CCW. Even my P320 Compact versions tend to get into my back pocket making getting to my wallet a chore. That and for what you are getting it for; and to me the key tenant to a good CCW is this; for what you will be using it for do you really need the extra length and weight?

Now, if you want a bed side gun, go for it. The longer sight radius "might" be a factor if you have a huge house. I tend to use compact or carry guns here as well as I want something my wife is comfortable holding and using.

So ultimately you have to decide for yourself. Just be practice. Regardless, the key to carrying larger guns is a really good holster.
