Sig MCX Legacy - the market or retain

1043 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  ayyyota
I haven't been good with keeping up with the recalls. I just realized the BCG was recalled but I've also seen theres a market for the legacy version as it was released.

Just a few questions for advice:

Is there a market of collectors looking for the MCX as released, and if so, how much does it go for? I did one upgrade to it - which was the Geiselle SSA trigger group, but I also have the original trigger in box.

If no market, should I just send in for the new BCG assembly?

For reference - Its barrel is 16" chambered in NATO 5.56 - maybe 800 rounds shot through it. Well taken care of.

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!

An FFL dealer would have to do the recall to sell an MCX with a recall that hasn't been completed. Hence, to a dealer it's worth less without the recall. The Geissele trigger will not work with the new MCX safety latch. "G" marked safety latches that work with the Geissele SSA trigger are scarce and may be hard to find. SIG makes two match triggers that work with the MCX. The prices are $120 and $150 plus tax and shipping depending on which you choose. A used Geissele SSA in good condition still has some value.

Value of an MCX to a private party without the recall is anyone's guess, but a private party should not want a rifle that can have a slam fire on a soft primer.

Thank you, Bill. I'm the original owner and since Sig did mandate a recall on the BCG, I imagine they would still warranty it even if I'm late to the game, correct? From the information I have seen, they also provide the latch labeled G for the Geissele trigger and a 50 dollar gift card for inconvenience. Sig stated they could never replicate the failure on the barrels chambered in 5.56 but they issued a recall anyways. If there isn't a market that is at a premium I will definitely get the BCG 2.0. I'm just feeling out my options. It shoot incredible groups even with range ammo, fires like a dream, is really light and compact with the folding stock. I appreciate you taking the time to follow up with me though!
SIG will definitely take care of you. From SIG's point of view, they are eliminating a contingent liability that could cost them big bucks. They have provided the G latch in the past and I still have one.

SIG couldn't replicate the problem on factory 223/5.56 ammo. But don't forget that there are many reloaders that will use just about any primer that they can find in stock that is a small primer. My guess is some factory 300BLK ammo may have had the slam fire problem.

I have three MCX rifles and two pistols. One rifle and pistol are the legacy models. I especially like the lower weight on the legacy MCX, but hated the original stock which has been replaced with a newer SIG stock.

The Gen 3 MCX will be about a pound lighter than the Virtus due to a lighter barrel and handguard. It will likely arrive some time in 2023. However, SIG will be very busy with DoD contracts so there is no certainty on what SIG will be doing in the future.

So I did contact Sig today. Its odd but they requested the whole rifle be sent in not just the BCG assembly. From what I read everyone just sent in the BCG before or am I incorrect?
SIG may wish to verify head space and function test the rifle with live ammo. The recall was abbreviated in the manner that you have noted for cost containment reasons including labor shortages which would slow return of your rifle. SIG's turn around time is usually very fast if they have parts in stock.

The new part may require swapping your old bolt into a new carrier that is designed for a tapered bolt and so on. I have no idea what the result will be except that your MCX will run and be safe to handle properly.

I just shot my MCX Virtus LE version today. I put a midwest rail and a LaRue MBT trigger. I removed the firing pin block lever on it so it would work with the MBT trigger. I loaded some rounds and chambered them. It doesn’t even leave a dimple on the primer like an AR does. It makes the weapon rock!

I Shot some groups with 75 gn Gold Dots. I think the rifle could do better because the center dot on the scope is 1 inch at 100 yards making it tough to shoot tight. Such a soft shooter.

If you can, I'd get it in writing/email what Sig is going do for the recall. Buddy had one updated and they included the match Duo trigger with his update. I sent a couple of SBRs in and just got the carrier updated without the trigger upgrade. I asked why the need to ship the entire rifle, party line was to make sure they got you the correct parts. Don't quote me, but I thought the original(not cabelas self regulating gas setup) bolt lugs weren't radiused at all, 90deg cuts like an AR. The upgrade had some radius to the lugs but didn't have the taper on the rear of the lugs like the virtus. Think they added the firing pin spring as well

As mentioned above, you can remove the latch to use whatever trigger you want, but that's on you.
They want the full rifle unfortunately, but if you've got the SSA in there, then they should upgrade you to the Match-Duo (if you've just got the standard Sig milspec, then they won't).
