Looking at the 10mm. What advantages does it have over the standard .45 Auto?

Wider ammunition loading selection, from mild to wild.

Depends on what you mean by "advantage". 10mm has higher muzzle velocity and energy, greater recoil, and better penetration than a 45acp. It's a cartridge best suited for hunting mid to large size animals. For self-defense, IMHO, it's overkill and not necessary compared to the 45.

At full 10mm rounds, you'd need a .45 SMC to keep up. If you buy .40 loaded rounds, I don't see a difference. I have 2 P220 10mm and use them for pigs, for which they are awesome.

Bigger, more powerful, more expensive...

... Just because...

In truth, I've actually been shifting back to 9mm to get an increased round count. The HK offerings especially, although I have my eye on a P226 soon.
