SIG 'chassis' FCG

504 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  t1tan
I'll ask this here, tho the P320 forum would work too.
Is SIG's chassis system protected by a patent?
It seems a really clever idea, from a practical, as well as a marketing standpoint. It makes substituting grip frames really easy; the armed forces love that. And we all love to play 'Barbies' with our guns, so substitute grip frames are really marketable..
Anyway, is anyone else using the chassis system?
Thnx,
Moon

They’re not the first ones to do it and several others do it but hardly utilize it or market it, Walther and Beretta to name a couple.
t1tan, you're saying that the serial numbered item (the fire control group) can be removed from a gripframe and placed in another?
Not doubting your response, but I'd like a little more detail.
Thnx,
Moon
I've see 80% FCU's for sale so there must be some agreements there or somebody is going to be in hot water...

Yes, certain models of other brands offer the feature as well, just was never utilized or heavily marketed like Sig. Beretta sold additional color and size grip modules for the APX. Walther PPS used a chassis but they never offered different frames. Steyr used a chassis on their M series. It's not a new idea, Sig is just the only one doing it right as far as options and offerings.
