I have a 320C that I have IWB carried for a month now. I was doing some routine cleaning on the gun and found what looked like rust powder in the grooves of my mag release. I disassembled the mag release and found that it was rust throughout. I call Sig Customer Service and they were quick to apologize and send out a new mag release kit (awaiting arrival). So happy with CS, the next day I go and look at the frame that came with my gun (Medium, as I purchased a Small compact frame for a better fit in my hand) and low and behold I have the same situation anyone else having this issue or is it just me down here in "No Winter till February, FLORIDA!"?
I live in AZ and carry IWB.
Even though I wipe the sweat off of the gun I was carrying.....rust shows up.
Guess one way around that is to wear an undershirt with the tee shirt. Nah....to hot.
Just have to clean often.
P.S. We have dry heat. If you are in FL... lot worse.
i live in alabama, and even my p229 will rust occasionally on the controls when i dont clean it often enough(i do once weekly for wipe downs, and generally every other week for cleaning as i shoot every other week or so), not a huge problem really. just have to be mindful to take care of the tools that will take care of you. as long as i wipe them down weekly i never have any issues.
I live in far south Florida. I sweat and carry daily.
I had some issues with rust as well. I bought something made by Boeing called BoeShield T9. Spray it on and let it set for a while. It leaves a slick film that prevents corrosion and rust. Something like this or Ballistol may help.
What I'm wondering is my problem will arise after months not just one.
If the Op's gun rusted in a month this doesn't bode well for all the guns the military will be using does it? What will a well used two year old P320 look like?
my 95' p229 only rusts on the controls, and it takes a few good weeks of not wiping it down before it happens. my sp2022 hasnt done it period and ive gone about a month or so without cleaning it, and its currently my edc aiwb. ive had issues with blued slides with other pistols in the past as well from iwb carry. sweat rusts guns, you have to take good care of them. i always tuck a shirt under my holster to help keep sweat off of my pistol.
I carry in a Blackpoint Dualpoint holster and wear an undershirt most days. I carried a different manufacturers gun for 5 years in a Raven Vanguard holster and did not have this issue (wore the finish off the left corner of the slide from rubbing against my skin) but no rust issues. I am just surprised by this happening. In a month I have pitting on the internals of the mag release. Wiping down the gun won't prevent this I am going to have to remove the mag release on a weekly basis to clean and lube the part. I will look into the BioShield and Ballistol and see if that will help.
Years ago I started modifying all of my holsters with a larger leather sweat shield. Since doing so, rust is never a problem and I always carry AIWB or IWB.
I buy the leather from Michaels and cut it to size. No one but me sees it so it doesn't have to be beautiful.
