What are my options for putting a Romeo sight on my Legion p226 9mm? Can I send it in for milling out the rear of the slide to accept a red dot optic? Will that allow me to put any manufacturer's optic there?

Do I need to order a new slide and is that available?

For what reason, range or carry?

Different brands require different milling or adapter plates to work.

FWIW, if I were milling a slide for my Legion, it would be for a Leupold DeltaPoint.

Bridge mounts are exactly what they seem.
Pros - easy and cheap way of getting a red dot on any railed gun
Cons - sight sits pretty high above bore axis, some people thing it looks cheesy, adds extra weight, almost impossible to carry.

As for OP, you can get any 226 slide milled to accept any red dot (pretty much).
You can also get a dovetail mount (don't quote me on that), cheaper and not as permanent.
The problem I see is that it is almost impossible to buy another legion slide if you mess this one up. Unless someone else out there is willing to sell you theirs. If you know 100% this is what you want to do with your legion, than go for it. Otherwise if you're not sure, I would personally buy another 226 slide, maybe even pre-milled, and just get it cerakoted sig dark gray. Save you a lot of money and headache if you change your mind down the road. Plus no one will notice it's not a legion slide since the red dot will sit on where the legion symbol is.

The bridge mounts works OK I've seen many guys using them at my range with various pistols.

If milling i would buy a new/used 226 40/357 slide, you can find them at reasonable cost. You must specify what red dot mount you want to use. You could re-sell the slide quite easily if desired and not seriously devalue the Legion.

Dovetail mount...

...is a good idea.

Just got one for my P226 Tacops from Mounting Solutions Plus - Scope Mounts, Rings, Ar-15 Accessories Plus More

Used sight pusher to remove rear sight (right to left) then tapped in the dovetail mount with a brass punch (left to right).

Be careful and use a brass punch/drift to center the base in the dovetail.

Mounting plate has two screws..be sure to put a little blue loctite on them.

Not sure if this will be an issue on your Romeo, but I ran out of "up" elevation adjustment on my Burris Fastfire III. Bought a delrin shim from UM Tactical to solve the problem.

Picture is the Tacops and my X5 with red dots.

when you get a chance can you link to the exact page to what you ordered?

Why not just get a conversion kit and mill it?
You can then swap back and forth.
I too am thinking about machining a 2nd slide for an optic and like the idea of purchasing a conversion kit. On the sigsauer site I see two X-change kits for the P226 in 9mm, one Elite and one BLK. I can't tell from the pics on the site what the differences are between them. I assume the BLK is black nitron? Is the Elite a polished stainless steel? Which one would look better on a Legion frame?

Thanks.

CHINCH: Link to P226 Dovetail Mount

Burris FastFire Mounts

This gets you to the main pages for this mount and it shows the one for Glock.

Select Sig over on the right side and you'll see it.

Part number is 126-BUR-410327, $34.95. And...of course...now they show backordered....

You may also want to consider the $9.99 Delrin shim from UM Tactical. It let me get the dot on target when I ran out of elevation adjustment.

I bought one of the conversion kits and had the slide milled for a red dot. The nitron color is very close to the Legion gray.

Frankly I do not see Sig offering the 226RX slide as a stand alone item given the demand vs production of the Romeo 1 and the 226 RX. I suspect they want to sell completed units only.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Elite kit has the front slide serrations and the BLK does not.

Image below is from an Elite Kit.

Yes. I called my customer service rep and ordered an Elite conversion kit this morning. Ryan explained as you said, that the Elite has the front serations, and also "Elite" engraving on the side of the slide. He said both the Elite and the BLK have the same nitron finish. As a Legion member he offered me a 20% discount which I am grateful for.
