Romeo 4T Defect?

Romeo 4T arrived today and to my disbelief there appears to be a glaring issue with the optic. When light enters from behind the optic there’s a very noticeable red line to the right of the reticle and 1/3 of the field of view is tinted red. This isn’t a reflection bouncing off the lens. Other red dots I’ve had in the past don’t have this issue. Will be contacting Sig. Here are a couple photos of what I’m seeing. Is this normal? Anyone else had this issue?

I’ve read other threads and comments that state this red tint is normal in closed red dot optics. I don’t believe this to be the case. Never seen it before.
That looks like a smear of glue, or something. Definitely send pics to SIG.
Looks odd and definitely off. Don't worry though SIG will take care of you. Here's a POC in Optics.

Most red dots will have a glare like that. The front lens is tilted to an angle so the reticle can project on to that lens. What you are seeing is the coating of the glass. Since it isn’t flat when the predominant light is behind you an image like that will occur. It will also be on the side or angle of how the lens is tilted. My Aimpoint micro has the least the MRO and Sig and Holosuns have it the most to varying degrees. That 1/3 area is the area of tilt. The degree and amount are based on the quality of glass and where they designed the dot to project.

Unfortunately it's normal. What's annoying though is my Romeo 5s have it less than my Holosun 515s at 3x the price ....

MRO
Camera may not show it but it can be significant on the MRO. The bigger objective lens will show more because it’s bigger. Slight downside given the improved field of view. Also another downside is the parallax shift at the far edges of the optic.

Aimpoint Micro
The dot projects further from the tilt-best design out there. There are many clones but really the micro is superior in so many ways.

the dots are clear despite the camera. I was free handing it so there is a little anomaly.

If this is considered normal, I’ll be asking for a refund and returning the optic. At this price point I’ll just grab an eotech. Hopefully Sig is understanding. I love their products but won’t deal with this. Worried their return policy discusses only being able to return unopened boxes. How can you tell you don’t like the optic without opening the box??
Anyone have experience returning a Sig optic? Not happy with the Romeo 4T. I cut the holographic seal and opened the box, put battery in the optic to discover I wasn’t happy with it.

Electro Optics Return Policy – New, unopened optics that still have the holographic seal can be returned for a refund/exchange with 14 days of purchase or shipment of Product to Buyer, whichever is later, less shipping and handling.

Will Sig accept my return? How do you know you don’t like the optic without opening the box??

Wouldn't hurt to give Sig CSV a call ,
Be polite about it , they might go out of the way to help you ..
BTW.. I'd try Amazon , easy to return ..
Good luck

Post it for sale. Someone will buy it or might trade it for something you like.

I have a Romeo 4S - it doesn't look like that.
I have 2 Romeo 4Ts and a bunch of Vortex and Holosun closed emitters and I haven't seen anything that looks like that. Is it always there or just in particular lighting conditions?

It's when bright light is shining from directly behind you.
Just for giggles I checked out the Romeo 5 XDR Predator on my sons 15-22. The glare was there but hardly noticeable. The lens tilts up so the glare gets visible at the upper 1/3 but it’s significantly less noticeable. It’s also
like the Aimpoint where the glare doesn’t not start at the reticle. The main key here is that since the dot is green and I am seeing a different lens coating color/hue compared to the coating of a red dot. If I still had a green dot MRO I could compare. It makes me wonder now if the coating they use in green dots helps with the glare. My guess is there could be different coating based on the color of the reticle which would make sense. The coating would have to at the very least be neutral to the dots color.
My 4T looked nothing like that.

all of my red dots have some glare when viewed with a bright light behind and off angle, but none have a weird line that looks like that.
I'd take it outside into normal light after cleaning the lenses and see if it persists. Doesn't look like anything I've seen on any of the Romeo's I own, but that lighting may be a factor.
