Just got back from the range and took along 4 of my very top favorite 9MM shooters - SIG P226, CZ SP01, Walther PPQ, and HK P30L. Two metal from and two poly frame, some old school versus new school LOL. Had a really good time and range was not crowded being early on a weekday. For ammo I used PMC 115, Speer Lawman 115, and American Eagle 124 and 147. For me American Eagle 124 and 147 have become my favorite range ammo getting good results in everything I try them with. I did all shooting on 3 inch Shoot-N-C at 7 yards other then the last 20 rounds of the day being Speer Lawman 115 at 15 yards on a 5 inch Orange Peel target. As usual no issues with any of these terrific pistols. I can't really choose a favorite out of the four though for me my Walther PPQ is the best all around 9MM I own or have ever tried. For some reason I shoot a little low with my German P226 but use the same sight picture on all of them with the front sight dot centered on the target. My SP01 Shadow was the softest shooting being all steel but none of them were much to mention as far as recoil. I sure feel fortunate to own these four fine pistols.

Here are some pictures from today. All 3 inch target dots 10 rounds at 7 yards and Orange Peel 5 inch 20 rounds at 15 yards. Now time to do some maintenance on these beauties with bath and lube.

I have had my PPQ since they first came out and were imported by Smith and Wesson. Has never given me a problem. It was nice to shoot some heavy metal today too. Now that I am retired I can be picky about when I go to the range. I am thinking about getting some Hogue G10 grips for my P226 though the grips on it work pretty well but it might be nice to dress her up a bit.

Congratulations, on the enjoyable day at the range, for starters! You are going to love retirement also... although it could get a little lonely at times, at the range, if you go during the day through the middle of the week!

All of those pistols are on my current radar! Mostly the P226 and the SP-01. The PPQ is still hanging in there but only just so. I need to just suck it up and figure out a way to get them all! Of course probably have to start with the Sig

Looks like you shoot them all about the same, makes for hard decisions only having 2 hands :p

I love my PPQ M2 - Funny because out of that picture I am planning on adding a P30L in Light LEM or just V3 (no safety), and a CZ 75B if I can ever find a high polished stainless version -

PPQ's trigger is stupid light, double taps are effortless - I'd like to get a bit of a stipple job done though as my hands get sweaty and I don't want to put Talon Grips on - little more slippery compared to my Glocks and my P320

It was getting to the point before retirement that I almost did not want to go to the range anymore as it was like a war zone on weekends. Almost very time there were people in line renting a gun telling the counter gut they had never fired a pistol before.:eek::eek: I told a couple people "and be SURE to keep that pistol pointed down range only at all times!!" , yikes. At least the range guy accommodated me when I begged to be put in a different range from that guy LOL.

Week days are so much nicer and fellow shooter seem to shoot much better and be great about safety.

I have always had a preference for metal frame hammer fired pistols, other than for CCW, and you can't go wrong with the P226 or SP01 if they fit you well. I picked up that P226 about six years ago seeing it in the used guns for sale case at LGS for $499 when I stopped buy for lunch. It was almost new condition and came with original case and test target. Costly lunch but no regrets. :)

Thanks! There are lot of terrific pistols these days and these work well for me and my tastes as primarily range and home SD weapons though I do CCW my PPQ on occasion but now a days I primarily CCW my Walther PPS, Glock 19, and HK P30SK which are also all terrific shooters.

I really like my HK P30LS and I bet you would too with whatever trigger version you decide to go with. My P30SK is light LEM and it is really sweet. CZs can be hard to get at times but you will find a high polish CZ 75B with a bit of patience. No doubt the PPQ can be a bit slippery. Has not been a problem for me yet. Good luck with whatever way you go with your's.

Thanks! I may get the P30 in Light LEM and the P30L in V3 DA/SA (decocker only) as I like to have some variety in my shooting pistols - both great systems - I have a VP9 on order so it should satisfy the HK itch for a short amount of time LOL

The CZ I'm not in a hurry as I'm moving to NC in a couple months and will get it when I live there - the 16 round mags have to be pinned by my FFL to only hold 15 if I purchased one here -

I'll probably get my PPQ done by Lane @ Cold Bore Custom - some great pics of his work on a PPQ on the WaltherForums, it looks factory - and if I got a PPQ 45 someday I would ABSOLUTELY do that pistol as well -

I've got both the 226 and PPQ...but I purchased a .22 conversion kit for the 226 and now I leave it on most of the time. What an improvement over my S&W 422 (which, until I started shooting the 226 in .22 I was perfectly content with.)

And as much as I love my PPQ M1 I like my P99AS better. The 99 shoots almost like a DA/SA....with a regular DA on the first shot but then the striker-fired equivalent to SA on subsequent shots. Or simply thumb back the hammer (or rack the slide on the first shot)and its in SA...and the trigger is every bit as good as the Q.

Best DA/SA I own, however, is a 229E2. I bought it used and whatever the previous owner did to it...or it's simply amazing out of the box....wow. Nice.

Here's a bad pic of a 226 with E10 grips.

I like those G10 grips on your P226  and have been thinking of getting the same for one of my P226s,

Nice that you have a P99 AS. My Son has one and is what got me started on Walthers but at the time they were unavailable, pretty much as they are now, so I bought the PPQ when it first came out in mid 1911 and have owned it ever since. I probably will get a P99 AS 9MM too.
