P320 XTEN first impressions and Optic ANNOYANCE

13760 Views 81 Replies 34 Participants Last post by  Skipdrag
Just bought the P320 XTEN. First 100 rounds went the way the reviews mentioned. A couple of stovepiped rounds, but otherwise great.
Now for the aggravation.
I bought this pistol, in part, for the optics cutout that is said to be Trijicon RMR compatible. I bought an optic, but while the holes lined up, the screws did not work. There was no warning or information that these were INCOMPATIBLE. I asked support to send compatible screws, since SIG inconvenienced me. They said I could buy them. This is the second unsatisfactory response I've gotten from support. Turning me from FAN to UNSATISFIED Customer. Interesting that I "hear" that Sig SAUER support is the best, but my experience has not been good.

Nice first post.

How about a little more detail on why the screws "don't work?" Is it because of thread pitch or length?

So, buy the screws. They must be .35 each.

It is compatible you just need to get the right hardware. With all the different optics cuts and manufacturers out there I wouldn't expect everything to be a perfect match.....

Respectfully, if you say it is compatible with Trijicon RMR, and I get one, I DO expect the screws to work....It is PART OF THE MOUNTING and compatibility.

So, I say to SIG, the must be 35 cents....include them....more like $10 to buy ones guaranteed to work.

My gunsmith said that SIG chose a different thread, but didn't publicize it. He pointed me to C&H Precision (SIG P320 6-40 LowProfile Head Screws for Holosun 407C 507C 508T - C&H Precision Weapons (chpws.com) )
$5 plus shipping.

I suppose a fan-boy post is usual? OK, I'll play. I bought a P238 pocket pistol..Love it..Great Gun. Then I found out that the 938 was nearly as small, but in 9mm. Bought the SAS version. Loved the gun except for the SAS sight. It was hard to see in low light and in complete darkness the "tritium" looks like a firefly 300 yards away. I complained to Sig and they said they could check it out, but if it were "in spec" they would charge me. Instead, I bought a slide, barrel, spring combination on ebay and replaced it with traditional sig night sights. Only cost me about $220. I bought the Sig P220 Emperor Scorpion 10mm. Love it. Flawless. It has max capacity of 8, so I bought the new P320 XTEN, which brings me to my auspicious first post.
So you want Sig to stock and provide screws for every current, and future, optic that uses whatever the optic cut is on a pistol they made? Also kind of curious, why not blame Trijicon for this problem?

FWIW, I would say the optic and pistol are compatible, they just didn't include the mounting hardware for your specific application, something that happens all the time in many other areas of life.

I am non bias and neutral in this situation..... gentleman lets agree to disagree... I can see why he is alittle perturbed....i can see how miniscule the correct screws are in the big picture......no need to make someone feel less than or un comfortable....
we all are in this together!!!!

It would seem providing the correct pitch screws would be a simple ask and not hard

Mounting screws are typically provided with the optic, not the gun (if it didn't come with an optic pre-mounted). So if one buys an X-Ten, for example, and then wants to mount a third-party optic on it and that optic didn't come with the correct screws, I really don't see how that is the gun manufacturer's fault.

If, on the other hand, you had purchased a Sig optic, it would have come with the right screws. The Trijicon didn't. I don't see how that is Sig's fault.

That said, I've mounted Holosun optics on Sig P320s with the standard screws that came with the optic and had no probs. I'm not sure why there would be a difference in thread pitch between Trijicon and Holosun screws, since both are intended for mounting on lots of different guns. Regardless, C&H stainless screws are a good choice, esp. for mounting on a 10mm pistol.

Thanks for all the comments and questions. I'll keep it civil. Here is the simple statement put out by Sig: "Optic Ready Slide compatible with Romeo2 and Trijicon RMR"
If I buy the Trijicon RMR and attempt to place it on the "compatible" Optic-ready slide, I expect two simple things: (1) the holes in the slide to line up with the Trijicon RMR footprint (check) and (2) the hole is also the same thread-pitch as the screws that come with the "compatible" Trijicon RMR. Simply put, the threaded hole is not compatible with the screws that come with the RMR. The minimum would seem to be a note, like this: "Optic Ready Slide compatible with Romeo2 and Trijicon RMR"* *Note: You will need to obtain different screws than those supplied with Trijicon RMR and compatible optics. The specification for these screws is 4X32mm or something like that.
Does that sound reasonable?

+1 for C&H Precision! I've bought a lot of screws and optics plates from them for various pistols (some not Sig! o_O). If in doubt call or email C&H. They are awesome and have always come through for me.

Did the screws come with the gun or the sight? It sounds to me like the screws from Trijicon don't match the thread pitch of the slide. I mean, if you buy a Swampfox optic it also has an RMR foot print and comes with three different screw sizes. One would think for the cost of a trijicon, it would too.

I mean the Sig web site only says, "Optic Ready Slide compatible with Romeo2 and Trijicon RMR" - and it is, with the right screws.

Holosun & Leupold both include multiple pitch and length and will send new screws if something still doesn't fit. Can't speak for Trijicon. Tacoma Screw and Fastenal both are good options for finding fasteners. Good luck!

Wow, explosive topic!! Look, nothing is perfect in this world. I run into minor issues with guns all the
time. There's even a thread where I was griping about cheap screws on CZ's. When it was all said and
done it cost me $40 at a gunsmith to fix. Not worth me getting all wound up at CZ though.

I'd just buy the C&H Precision's and go shooting!

I don't think any optic I've bought ever came with the correct screws to mount to any handgun I had.
