Over the weekend my wifey picked up a P290RS with the oiled rubbed bronze finish and G10 grips. She liked the feel of the pistol in her hands and preferred the DAO trigger since this will be her first carry gun. Cabela's had it on sale for $399 and I had some club points, so after adding $10 to get it transferred to a dealer in our state on the other side of the river, the final price was $384 and change. Seemed like a good deal to me... and it made the wifey happy. Win-win!
We haven't fired the pistol yet (range time this Saturday) but already just fiddling around with it I can't say I'm a huge fan of the DAO trigger. It's certainly not going to fire unintentionally, so I can see that being a good thing for a first carry gun. But I am wondering about any upgrades that are out there right now - are there any "must haves" that we might as well get now, since everyone seems to get them eventually anyhow?
I was looking at some of the other P290 threads and see the references to the Galloway Precision parts: Antioch Trigger, s/s guide rod, and springs. None of the prices on those parts seem insane - especially compared to the 1911A1 I'm in the process of upgrading LOL.
I don't understand the difference between the Galloway 22 lb Recoil Spring Set and the Flat Wound Recoil Spring Conversion. Is the 22lb spring simply a doubled up flat wound recoil spring? Also, is 22lbs excessive for target shooting/plinking? I could see it being useful for taming some of the hotter defensive loads, but still... 22lb recoil spring for such a small gun seems like a lot.
Are there any smithies out there who do trigger/action work on the P290RS? I checked with Robert at the SIG Armorer and he told me he doesn't work on those particular SIGs.
And, yeah, we plan to take it out shooting before we do anything to it... I just like to start planning ahead sometimes. (Okay, most times.
)
Cheers,
