A little less than a year ago I reluctantly traded in my P938 on a P290RS ORB. The 938 had worn the sear spring locating pin on the original plastic mainspring housing AND the Hogue aluminum replacement. It also started dropping the 7 round mags while shooting. Because of the aftermarket housing and a Galloway trigger I had installed I couldn't send it back to Sig without reinstalling the original parts. I lost confidence in the gun so decided to trade it in.
I could shoot the 938 pretty well, something I have not been able to do with the 290RS. The long DAO pull, and as everyone knows, the factory trigger shape sucks. The curve at the bottom making the gun painful to shoot. I decided to install a Galloway Antioch curved trigger and performance spring kit, hopefully improving my accuracy. The pull was noticeably lighter and smoother but the bump on the bottom of the trigger felt nearly as bad as the stock trigger. Accuracy improved a little, good enough for center mass at 10 yards but still not even close to how I could shoot the 938.
I had gotten so disappointed in how I could shoot the gun I started looking at other summer carry alternatives. I had recently acquired a Beretta PX4 Compact Carry and absolutely love it. Accurate in both DA and SA so I started looking at the Beretta Nano. Like the early P290s, they seemed to be hit or miss as far as reliability goes. The latest 938 has an improved mainspring housing but I do not want to spend the money on one and prefer the longer DAO for a defense weapon.. I have even gone so far as to look into the SCCY CPX-2.
I final decided to try to modify the Galloway trigger and give the gun another chance. I figured if I mess it up I can always reinstall the original trigger and move on. I removed the trigger and completely removed the bottom 'bump' and rounded the edges. After reinstalling it I can't believe how much better it feels. Even if I only gain a little accuracy the gun is now a keeper! Sorry no before pics. I got in too big of a hurry and forgot.
