P239 SAS vs original - are there dimensional differences? (for a holster)

812 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Carmel Sig
I have a P239 SAS that I'm seeking a holster for, and the folks at BlackPoint Tactical are among the few that still make them for P239. As they work to confirm they can make a holster that fits my SAS model, they are asking what dimensions/controls are different for SAS vs original model (which they have in house). For example, are there changes to dimensions or shape of decocker, slide release, or other components? Anything else they need to watch out for? I don't have the original and it's hard to tell from photos...

Appreciate any help in addressing their diligent efforts to ensure they can get the dimensions right. Thank you so much!

Not really much difference. Just the rough edges are smoothed and rounded off,. Check the Sig site to see what Sig says SAS stands for.

Remember, the .40/.357 slide is slightly taller than a 9mm slide.

Yup.

For same caliber comparison, no dimensional differences between the SAS and non-SAS. The only difference is the melt job on all the sharp edges on the SAS.

Thank you. I'm guessing things are smoothed/rounded like other SAS versions...checking for unexpected dimension changes (flatter-against-gun controls and such).

Goodness, forgot about that! Thank you - great catch.

Awesome, thank you 12131. Love the 'melt job' term!

My guess is any holster built for the original P239 in 357 should even more easily fit the SAS model...only question is if it might be too loose thanks to the melting. Guessing that won't be the case as it's just edges vs actual dimensions of controls, etc.

The main difference to work around may be my AC Sport TDL. Thank you all!
Don’t overthink it.
Any full service holster company should know the differences between caliber. What ever happened to looking at great companies like DeSantis? I’m reasonably sure they still have holsters available for all the modern Sigs, and at good prices available wherever holsters are sold. My2cents

If you were looking at a kydex holster made for a SAS model you might or might not have slight issues if you were trying to slide a non-SAS model of the same caliber into it. The other way around would not present a problem.
If it's a leather holster there would be no issue, almost certainly not even if going from 9mm to .40. The leather holsters I have hold both my .40 and 9mm 239's just fine.

As has been pointed out, differences exist between 9mm and 40/357 slides. Other than that, good to go.

What type of holster are you looking for? IWB, OWB, Kydex, Leather? Here is a mix of sources:

Craft Holsters

Alien Gear

Don Hume Can also find at many vendors

De Santis Same as above.

Amazon

Amazon II

Comp-Tac Infidel Hands down my favorite for IWB. This vendor, who I don't care for, has one, but these are generally hard to find for the 239.

I have carried my P239 in an OWB leather holster made for a P229. Yeah, it is a loose fit but unless hanging by my feet it ain't falling out - my regular EDC is a P229 though.

Thanks @Notebuyer. Love these options! I never buy from Amazon, but the others are great, and the ones sold at Amazon can be had elsewhere. Great to see these - it was getting old rummaging through other holster websites and not finding P239 in there!

I had been planning on a kydex OWB from BlackPoint Tactical, and they were asking about dimensions as they had a P239 9mm and a 40 in house to get the dimensions exactly right for my 357 Sig model. I've ordered one from them last night, and will look at your ideas for a leather companion for IWB. Appreciate your help!

You are welcome. That's what we are here for! BTW, my avatar is a 'first generation' P239 SAS, in .357 Sig, and it appears often in my carry rotation. I've had a lot of experience holster searching for it.
