P239 SAS question - re-installing locking insert

639 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Carmel Sig
Got a newbie-to-P239 question, would appreciate your kind help. I took off the stock TDL so I could install an AC Sport version, and was not expecting the locking insert and slide catch lever spring to pop out of the frame. I can figure out the basic idea of where it goes back in, but cannot find any way of angling it or putting it in from top that fits it back into the frame. Feel like an idiot to have to ask, but after scouring this site and the web for any hints or instruction on this step, I can find no insight and am stumped. Photo below shows the frame and the locking insert with slide catch lever spring next to it (the latter turned sideways for the photo).

Any suggestions, or pointers to a resource that can enlighten me to complete what I naively thought would be a 5 minute task? Thank you in advance!

Reinstalling the locking block sometimes is a PITA.

This. Meaning it's slanted up at angle, facing forward.
Plus, the slide catch lever must be pressed against (touching) the frame. Otherwise, you won't be able to put the locking insert back in.

Total victory! Turns out I had the slide catch lever away from the frame...that was enough to thwart me, as you wisely anticipated. The video was super helpful as well, getting a better feel for the ins/outs of my new (to me) P239. Thank you both for your wonderful help. Back to my afternoon of tinkering!

Goodness, what was I thinking. Photos below.

This P239 was born in 2016. Has a Romeo1 optic via Sig dovetail mount, an AC trigger, Sport TDL (thanks to your help!) and +1 mag. Plus a CTC laser grip module. It's my first 357 - I'm in love!
