P229r: New Barrel

437 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Superzuki
So not long I acquired a 2006 P229 DAK in .357Sig. LE origin, with lots of holster wear, but a great price and she shoots very well. I was inspecting the barrel the other day, and inside I thought I saw copper fouling. And the crown didn’t look quite right. Alas, the fouling isn’t just fouling; there’s a bit of rust also.

Anyhow, I got a new barrel from Sig. So what. Given what I paid for the pistol, it’s worth the cost of a new barrel. Was a bit surprised Sig actually had one.

Cheers!

What’s your impression of the P229 DAK 357? Had a guy offer me one recently and thought it could be a fun range gun. What is the trigger pull like?

Even though they stopped production on new .357 Sig pistols, they still produce replacement Barrels for current models.

I've noticed new batches of LEO DAK models on Gun Broker again, with somewhat reasonable prices. Of course, the DAK is an acquired taste... and while I have converted a couple P229Rs from DAK to DA/SA, normally it will run $200 for the parts, unless you can "bundle" some parts. Simple things, such as an "E2 Grip Kit" gets you the Decocking Lever, Strut, and Mainspring seat besides the Grip itself. Having the list of required parts, helps insure you get everything "ordered"!

In short, it’s awesome. The DAK system isn’t at all difficult to learn, and the trigger itself is impressively smooth. The only real training I’m doing is allowing the trigger to completely reset before the next shot. Supposedly, this is the “proper” way for DAK, but even the first reset, at roughly 8lbs, isn’t noticeable.

I’ve been carrying a Glock 32.4 for quite awhile. The only difference I’m wrestling with is weight. I have an excellent gun belt, along with an Alien Gear holster designed for this 229, but there’s no denying the weight difference. Still, I’ll never part with this weapon. It’s that good.

And! It’s a real contender to become my EDC.
I've used the Sig Shop for conversion to DA/SA. The shop does a good job, uses all new parts, and is quick.
I got a P226 in a trade so I decided to convert it myself. Not all of the parts were available, many were used.
So I went through the Sig Shop after that was done, I decided it was a cost effective way to convert a DAK.
