I recently purchased a 229 from a friend. Serial number begins with AM. I cannot find the "M" in any cross references. Trying to date my pistol.
Any ideas?

According to the link AM serial number looks to be 2007 ish.

What are the first three numerals of the serial number? It could be 2007 to 2009.

All older P229's start with A, then another letter. So they started with AA, then AB, all the way to AM. AM serials went all the way to like AM168XXX or so. Mine, AM90XXX, is 2007. P229's of that era that were made with US frames have 3 letters--A, another letter, then U for US (AJU, AGU, etc...)

Don't forget the AM-prefixed P229s start from 5 digits after the "AM" (2003) all the way to 6 digits (2010).
