P229 SAS

2565 Views 44 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  ni hao
I’ve talked to a couple of members here whose opinion I trust and respect. One of them suggested that I ask the rest of y’all.
I’ve found a Sig P229 SAS in 357 Sig. It’s a two tone, one mag and no box. No pictures are available. It does show a little carry wear
The price is $640 after shipping, FFL fees, etc.
Thoughts?

I've seen 229 357 with one mag at Gander Outdoor for less than $500. Granted, they showed more than a little wear. If it was something I felt I had to have I guess I would pay the asking price but if it was more of I'll get it cause it's a deal, I think I'd make an offer. Maybe $550-$575 out the door with including shipping and ffl.

I have SAS in P229 .40….P239 .357 ….and P220 .45 Carry so I’m a bit biased. I like round numbers. $600 and make your move! Discontinued Sigs in 357 are getting scarcer and scarcer (other than LE trade ins).

I think the price is fair. Around my parts a shooter P229 goes for $500 - $550. A nice low mileage one in 9mm are the most pricey at $600 - $650.

Gone are the days of $400 used P229’s. Unless you find one belonging to a guy who lives in a cave without internet.

If it has the original box and a couple magazines, it's worth $650, IMHO, but you could suggest $600 and see what happens...$50 is $50!

Offer them $600 out the door but if they say no I would give $640.

Just the used gun with one mag and nothing else, and unless I have some pics, there is no way to say if $640 is good or not.

That model (all black) has been my primary CCW for the last 10 years or so. If it’s in Very Good condition or better that would be a fair price, and a bit on the bargain side for Excellent condition. But in this inflated market of stupid high prices…why so cheap? And why no pictures?

The SAS line was pointless imo.

I'd buy it.

Totally agree with this. All the gun's pointy corners and edges are smoothed out. So, it's really pointless.

Echoing others, without photos, hard to say. For a CCW, the SAS was made for the role, and personally, I'd take it over a Legion 7 days a week!

Here again, is it the older Legacy model, or a newer E2 version? Plus, is it an actual SAS, or a SAS Slide on an unrailed frame?

This is like asking a pride of cats if they want meat...of course the answer is going to be 'yes.'

Condition is a critical factor to determining value. There are extreme examples -- I'd pay a small fortune for an original Paterson or Colt Walker almost regardless of condition -- but in most cases condition is determinant.

I think 357 Sig is more desirable than 9mm (market is inundated), a little more desirable than 40S&W (ample in used market), the two-tone is less common, and aside from the humor, the SAS version is more desirable (also less common).

My question is why haven't you already bought it?

Hello,
Is there any way you can get pictures of the barrel "smileys," frame rails, and locking block, to see what condition those area are in?

Have you considered the cost of ammo? I love my 229 in .357, but I just don't shoot it as much as my 9mm's.

Just my 2 cents.
I went ahead and got it…I hope I won’t be disappointed.
It does have the “melted” fram, though not made in Germany, according to the stamp on the frame. It also has a Legacy slide and a “skinny” trigger.
If the slide is stainless, I might try to polish it with some Flitz.

The original stainless look was bead blasted, and not polished.

Awaiting your "reveal"...

Congratulations!
Thanks. I’ll post pictures when it arrives.
when I think about it, I was looking at LE trades on Gunbroker, but they were mostly DAK, only one mag, and no SRT. By the time all was said and done, I’d probably have about the same invested.
