P229 SAS 9MM AT LGS/Priced right?

1651 Views 29 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Vincent04
$950 at LGS out the door, box, 2 mags, supposedly never fired. I have a 226 Navy, thinking of trading but have to come up with 350 in cash. Only thing I'm gaining is E2 grips and SRT. Doesn't seem worth it. Any advice?

$950, in the current market, very fair, especially OTD at your LGS.

But, I would never trade in the Navy.

Only getting $600 in trade value for a P226/MK25? It's no deal.

I like the unfired SAS at $950 OTD as a straight buy. That’s like $875 pre tax. I don’t like the trade scenario. Keep the MK and just buy the SAS.

The SAS with wooden grips were 1st generation DAKs and not DA/SA, the Generation 2 as above, were OEM with E2 grips, IIRC.

OP, definitely worth that price, but agree with the others the trade is a no go, as far as value!

The 229 SAS Gen 2 is just about the perfect P229 carry pistol. Unfortunately, $950 is a fair price in today's market. Buy it if you can, and keep the Navy.

Worst case if you can't afford both, keep the Navy and sell it on the open market. You should be able to get $900-$950 for it
depending on your local market.

If you don't want it, let me know the name of the Local gun store. I would be glad to take it.

Keep the Navy and buy the 229 SAS - even though $950 is a "fair price" now, it's too bad you weren't looking for one 4 years ago when they were $300 less...I paid $655 for mine with (3) magazines in July 2018.

I actually picked up a P229 SAS in .40 S&W for less a few months back, in an auction. But again, it was a .40 with a little rust on the controls, and exposed areas of the Hammer likely from perspiration. Even with correcting the minor rust issues, it still was a bargain.

I've been watching since then for 9mm SAS, and they have all went for at least $950, that I've seen. As others have mentioned, seeing that it's at a LGS, you save shipping and transfer fees as well, so go for it!

Unfortunately, shops generally give very low offers on trade in. They want to have enough room to still make a profit selling your "used" gun.

You would stand to make more money selling it locally or through this forum's classified section.

If ;this is your only gun,
for whatever reason you can only have one. AND are REALLY not happy with the 226,
you intend to carry the 229,
then go for it, other wise I’d say keep the 226
Aside from the upgraded slide and size anything else can be added to the navy.
I personally wouldn’t trade it in for 600. Better off selling on your own.
But this is one of those decisions only you can decide what’s best for you.

I decided to keep the 226 Navy, and likely will never part with it as I served in the USN and, more importantly, love the gun as is. Only thing I want to add is an SRT and have contacted SIG CS about installing the kit. I know I could buy the parts but am not confident I could install it properly, YT instructional videos notwithstanding. Appreciate the advice I get on this forum; always knowledgeable and civil and appreciated.

Tough one. Not having a P226 anymore would be a downer. Especially an MK25. Not having a nice P229 would also be a downer.

Good idea regarding the SRT. You might save some money if you just have someone local to you install it. Save shipping etc. If you do send it to Sig, you might consider upgrading the sights during the same trip.

What's a Glock? Is that one of those things used to keep the goats feed bin propped open?
