P229 Pro Pistol

I’m considering picking one of these up if the frame is the Legion style with the black finish. Does anyone own one yet to confirm the frame Is what it appears to be in the photo below?

Man, these "Pro" SIGs are incredibly ugly.

I really like the improvements of the Legion frame. I could do without the slide cuts. But it's nice to see a P229 in the lineup that is at least partially "optics ready" without it being a RXP. If they would just offer this with a normal P229 slide that was milled, in black and without all the Legio hoo-ha, I'd be seriously tempted to pick one up.

With the possible exceptions of the grips and adding a beavertail, I think the Germans did a wonderful job designing the P229 the first time.

Love it. I've been looking for the same in P226. Among those available to civilians, I've only seen DAO versions. Yes, the difference between the LE/Black and the "regular" Legion is (as far as I understand) only cosmetic. But I still want one!

Actually, if the slide were not notched at the muzzle, the gun wouldn't be half bad looking.

That and the grips put me off. I saw one at my LGS the other day. Not "bad" looking per se,
just not good. Like whoever designed the exterior was either drunk or 19 years old. Like
wheels on a car, grips are everything. But each to his own.

I agree with you as well. Everything else is fine but those 1/2 rounds at the muzzle end.
To me, the only decent thing about the "Pro" is the normal looking lower. Everything about the upper is grotesque. The holes, the half holes. And the slide serrations, ugh! Is SIG trying to compete with the Beretta APX or something?

Well, I'm considering a P229 also. But my first question is, can an alloy frame P229 handle 9mm +P ammo? Or a constant diet of the 124 grain NATO ammo? Here's where it gets tricky. I shoot P226s and they are great. I don't think I would want to carry anything larger. My speculative P229 would be equipped with a compensator that would make it the same size as a P226. Am I correct in thinking that a compensator would have serious affect on the recoil cycle? Perhaps requiring a different spring weight? And aren't comps more effective with hotter ammo?
^^^^

SIG says +P ammo is ok.

My carry ammo in my P239/9 is 124 gr +P Speer Gold Dot HP's.
After a little more research, and the fact that the supply of a particular 9mm load is uncertain (and I don't reload 9mm), I've decided against a comp. But not necessarily against a P229...
