P226 tacops grips

1402 Views 26 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Fred Ward
Hey guys, new on here. Recently acquired a p226 tacops(already own an elite) but the grips are scuffed pretty badly around the magwell and wondering if anyone has had any luck finding the OEM magwell grips and if anyone personally prefers the hogue magrip grips over the original grips? I’m just simple and don’t know how flashy the hogue grips will look in person which is why I am searching for the OEM, but am curious if people prefer the hogue grips for better grip. Thanks for any feedback gentlemen and ladies!

Get the Hogue magrips, in black checkered. Not flashy at all but still look great and function better.

Awesome man thank you. Just to me personally, the entire point of the tacops is to keep the magwell style grip with the stock type mag rather than changing to a regular grip and a 15 mag. Then it’s basically like my elite just without an e2 grip. Any recommendations on mags for it? It only came with one during the purchase
Mec-Gar 20 rounders are what your looking for.

12131 is pointing you in the right direction about grips.

Thanks so much bud. Haha I’m 30 and not very tech savvy so trying to get used to the forum. If I mess up replies or accidentally post in an incorrect forum, y’all don’t crucify me. Im from Alabama for goodness sake haha

Wilson Combat has the 20 mecgars in stock at a good price.

Do not buy Pro Mags.

Dude you’re the best. That was a difference between $10 per mag from viewing on mecgar’s site. For some reason it wouldn’t allow multiple mags to be added (may be because I’m ordering off a phone idk.)
Y’all are the best. Also curious if the threaded barrel is worth the purchase? I love the look and in the future plan on finally breaking down and paying the stamp tax. Just didn’t know if y’all had experience with the thread cap ever coming loose or affecting your accuracy during practice rounds.
I’ve always preferred my TacOps with the factory magwell type grips

Well man if you could point me in a direction to find OEM grips, I’d be more than happy to listen. From my online search, they seem nonexistent.
... but the grips are scuffed pretty badly around the magwell
You might try fixing these before buying another set. I use a heat gun on low (a hair dryer is not enough) to re-slick the smooth areas, unless they have deep gouges It takes a bit of practice to avoid getting too much heat on them but generally it's pretty easy. (I practiced on the inside of the grips.) I also put painters tape on areas that are close to where I need to work but don't want to heat up.

I agree with this. These aren’t flashy. All business. I’m probably going to pick up a pair.

Here are a couple of magrips in Checkered G-Mascus Black on the guns. I prefer the G-Mascus pattern a little more.

10-4 thanks man.. did you use anything specific to wipe over the surface after heating it to smooth it over?

mecgar are what you seek. You can go standard and add some nice base pads. Or get the mecgar with the plastic base pads

I'll dig around tomorrow and see if I can find a set. Had a couple of Tac Ops, hated the grips and swapped them out.
