P226 MK25 question

1696 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Willard
I came across a MK 25 for sale. Used but very little. I have a regular P226 with a similar serial number.
My questions: #1. I thought MK25’s had their own serial number series
#2. the MK 25 is a short extractor, while mine has a long extractor. I’m wondering about that difference also with close serial numbers.
mine 47E0515xx, MK25 for sale 47E1128xx

Even SAO receivers can fit within the serial number "block", as well as Stainless Steel frames. I believe some of the first may have even had "U" prefix serial numbers.

Mk25s should all have the short extractor, as well as the navy anchor on the slide. All actual Mk25s should also have the supporting documentation.

I've seen some GB sellers trying to pass off P226Rs with Mk25 Slides, as Mk25s. I believe all actual Mk25s have actual Picatinny specification rails, and not the Sig propriety. Of course there have been some Commemorative models, that I believe used the common P226R frames.

I recall complete MK25 slides being offered for sale. Maybe someone swapped slides.

A picture of the box labels with matching numbers should tell if it’s legit.

Very few series have their own serial numbers. Two that come to mind are the NSW-prefix P226 NAVY and the TXDPS-prefix P226.

Q is right. The MK25 didn't have special numbers. And the MK25 continued to be made with the short extractor as that configuration was as specified for the Navy contract. SIG kept it like that. The P226 Combat was originally built with the same configuration, but SIG eventually converted it to use the newer slide with long extractor, before discontinuing the Combat. But the MK25 is still built as originally specified.

Sep 2012 MK25, UU serial.
The UU prefix was the older serial number scheme used on P226s, even the MK25, before SIG adopted the new serial number schemes on all SIGs. My MK25s are old enough to have the UU prefix. Well made.

Yes, several vendors are still offering them... I got one from Osage County Guns several months back... that I put on a '90 vintage P226 lower that was DAO, that I converted.

Here are 2 pictures of the one for sale. And current used, very good condition MK25 price?
Oh, also this one has Sig night sights. Are those standard? Thanks

I have two MK25’s. The anchor is on one, but not the other. The absence of the anchor itself means nothing. I actually wish they both didn’t have the anchor. Both came from the factory with MK25 paperwork.

I saw one locally like this just last week. I assumed it was a slide swap and did not look any closer.

That’s legitimate. Has the picatinny rail. Plus the sticker on the frame. Looks nice. Hope it’s priced right. Original box and papers included ?

If you like the price and want it, I would get it.
The MK25 has always been a good seller for SIG. Even though there is no indication that the Navy still uses any of them, SIG has continued to make it with the short extractor. I was convinced that SIG would have stopped that a long time ago because it is the only P226 that still has the slide with a short extractor. Even before the COVID panic, it was rare to see a new MK25 below $900+. Check used prices on Gunbroker.

And, while I've been surprised that SIG has continued to make the MK25 as long as they have, with the recent clearance of MK25 slides on the market, I can't help but think SIG may be about to end production of that model.

I’ll have to check on the box. $1100 which seems high. I’d consider “trading up” my current P226 but all I gain is night sights and an anchor picture. And there is the concern about availability of future short extractor parts if needed.

SIGLITE sights have been standard equipment from the beginning, as far as I know... as far as the "short" Extractor, the same parts are used in the P220 series, both .45 and 10mm, so no sweat there, as far as availability! Same situation involving FPPPs as well.

I never knew they are the same extractor. Same for 9mm and for .45? What about the P229 (9) Legacy slide extractor? Are they all interchangeable?

Pre-MIM, each case head diameter used a different Extractor, visibly identified by scallops... since the 2 scallop is identified as for 9mm, and 3 scallop for .40, I'm assuming the 1 scallop is for .45, from info gleaned from Top Guns website. Recently, in another Thread, we concluded the "longer" short Extractors which were found on the early P229 Slides in .40 were manufactured in Germany.

Per Top Gun's website, the #1200459-R, or Extractor-1 replaces all of the earlier Extractors, for P220, P225A1, P226, P227, P229, and P239... see description... Sig Sauer P220 External Extractor - New Style - Top Gun Supply, from my understanding.
