P226 curved rail laser light fitting.

1453 Views 16 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Carl.1
Hello all. I am looking for a laser light combo for my P226 that has the curved rail and am looking for anyone here who has fitted one.
I am looking particularly for makes that fit and hold laser zero. Please no mk25 comments, my pistol has the curved and not flat rail so these are of no help whatsoever.
Even comments on just laser and just lights would be helpful.

I am not looking at grip lasers or guide rod lasers thank you to all those that have them.

I have done a search but in truth it gets very confusing as to what does actually fit and hold zero with this curved rail so am hoping for some actual use comments as opposed to anyone that says suvh and such 'should' fit etc.

Cheers all. Hoping you are having a good day.

I’m not sure what a “curved” rail is, can you post pics?
Apparently the bottom of the rail isn't dead flat and has a radius which comes up to the slot on the side.

Pics here: [Review] Sig Sauer P226: Super Solid

Since this reviewer suggests adding a "normal" light accessory there seems to be no mounting difference. The matching rails on the accessory slide into the sides and the mating lug fits into one of the slots. Once tightened it should be secure with no rocking.

Perception being a thing, SIG may have stopped machining them this way due to the number of questions it got. Functionally it should made no difference concave or convex. Some pic rails for optics are machined with a slot down the middle leaving only teeth to engage, prompting the name "cheese grater" on those setups.

In to be corrected, something always new.

This image from pawpaw tactical shows the rail. it is not a standard rail so I am after real users who have fitted light lasers who can say the fit is good.

Actual owners with curved rails had to figure this out years ago, apparently.

This conversation does mention the round bottom rail requiring different inserts and Streamlight suggests it will rub the bottom of the rail. Others just bolted it on - which suggests makers may have changed their lights to fit.

It's also listed on other sites as a "curved rail" which is SIG proprietary. So, Im wrong - but the specific light maker likely has a way to accomodate theirs.

In for the actual owners here to finish their coffee and post.
Any light attached to a metal rail can wear the finish at the attachment points. Streamlight attaches right to left by gripping the slots parallel to the barrel. The plastic key specific for SIG on the Steamlight goes into one slot perpendicular to the barrel. Before tightening push the light forward into the slot so it won't move during recoil. Then tighten down. And the light may rub the bottom finish of the rounded slot as well as the two parallel slots. So what; the light is a valuable tool as long as the battery isn't dead.

OP,
My SureFire X400 G & X400 R have been mounted & swapped around to a few of my P series (220R5 10mm's, P220 22LR,45ACP, 226 22LR,9x19,357Sig,40 S&W, 227 22LR,45ACP) SIGS w/o any issues.

Thank you Dan, are those sigs with the curved rail?
Carl.1, I have stayed out of this conversation, since I didn't meet your "required" experience.

While I don't deal with lasers, I do deal with lights sparingly. As DansSIGs mentions, it's the width of the cross slot, and the width of the "key", used to locate the device, whether a laser, or a light, for stability.

Now if you are referring to a "return to zero", when dismounting your laser, and reinstallation, I'm afraid, most any device will be a failure. While some precision scope mounts and rings can make these claims, an aluminum frame rail, and an aluminum or synthetic device, most likely cannot. Be it a propriety, or picatinny specification rail.
I used surefire on my Sig and it has the curved rail. It held zero when I removed it and reinstalled it. It’s top shelf quality and not cheap. It comes with adjustment pieces to get a solid fit.

Hello Willard. No i am not expecting a return to zero mount/dismount unit. I am just after a unit that stays put when attached!
KenBry. Thank you, exactly the information i was hoping for. I am not too concerned with mount/dismount zero as i feel that would just be a nice bonus but i do not realy expect it. It is the stability and hold of zero when mounted i was looking for information on. And obviously if it fits well.
OP,
Yes,various configuration rials on the P series pistols that I listed.

3rd World Country accessories....you get what you paid for.

SureFire products are second to NONE.

KenBry,
SureFire has a replacement switch w/ lever that follows the trigger guard down the grip frame to squeeze to activate the X series light/lasers & other switch options for touch pads/push button switch options.

The Streamlight TRL-8 has different adapters for any rail, even Sig included with the light.

Hello all, so far two definates on the Streamlight light/laser TRL8 and the Surefire X400 light fitting the P226 curved rail.

I must admit I was hoping for more comments on actual units that actually fit with no issues. Is any one using Viridian?
