The issue, with lots of dry firing, is every time you do, the firing pin drives forward and is stopped by that 3mm solid or roll pin (depending on guns age). The impact will stress the pin and parts due to fatigue over many thousands of cycles.
Another easy and cheap way to do this is to cut a foam ear plug in half crosswise. Then stuff the smaller tip in the slide where the hammer hits. If you do it right, the foam will not interfere with the slide cycling, so you can rack the slide to cock the hammer so as to test reset in SA mode etc. Works well, even better than snap caps IMO - - and the bright orange is a hint to remove foam before use.
