I have a P220 (.45) from 1996. Was a law enforcement service weapon for my father from 1996-2012 and then retired, transferred from my father to me. I don't carry it on duty (third gen law enforcement) and it's just my EDC.

Right now, she's eating 230g Federal HST hollows, like she did for many years.

Would you recommend any other ammo?

The 220 is a very reliable gun. I bet it will eat most anything. I would use readily available inexpensive ammo for the range and like Speer Gold Dot for self defense rounds.

The following is just my personal opinion. As long as the threat is not one of the largest mammals on the planet, I would not concern myself too much with the hottest rounds. I would feel comfortable with just a good quality full load as you mentioned. As the song goes it a pretty big round.

You have reliability as you stated and ample power to defeat the threat.

I was once told by Sig Customer Service that Winchester white box is the most problematic ammo for Sigs.
I've never had a problem.
