Took a nice long motorcycle ride today to my (not so) local gun shop. I currently have a P320 X-5 on special order there. However, in the case was a P220 SAO Elite in 10mm. I have always been a traditional DA/SA guy, but with the purchase of my first P320, and then with the purchases of my P226 RX SAO and SAO Legion I have really come to appreciate the SAO- and striker fired pistols, so much so that my P226 Legion DA/SA has lost some of its shine for me. I just don't shoot it as well as the other SAO P226's even with the trigger adjustment and lighter mainspring.

This P220 really has me intrigued. I don't have any caliber at the moment other than 9mm, but have owned a P220ST all stainless in .45 in the past, a pistol I shot very well but was disappointed with its reliability. Does anyone have any experience with this pistol? Is the SAO trigger in the same league with the SAO P226's I own? Would it be a decent trade if I consider trading in my DA/SA Legion, obviously depending on what they'll give me? Or even cancelling the X-5?

BTW.....it would be a plinking, range target pistol.

Thanks in advance.

I have the P220 10mm SAO in Stainless(still on the hunt for the Nitron version). I love the gun! I have a thing for the Classic P Series guns with the 5 inch long barrels--I wish SIG USA made more models with longer barrels.

If you are open to 10mm, I think you will enjoy this gun! From what I have read, these guns are still difficult to come by.

I forgot to add I would not cancel your re-order on the P320 X-Five--I think that is going to be a nice gun too!

I am in the market for an all stainless P220 or P227 myself.. There is someone on Arsmlist selling one of the nitron 220 10mm version in my town for 1150.00. His add says they are hard to find and no longer in production? Don't know if thats true or not. However I am really wanting a stainless to complete my collection how much was that one selling for?

As for as trading your Legion I would trade my 229 Legion in a hart beat but, in my experience gun shops don't give much for trades. I do not know about Michigan but here in Texas there is a sight called Texas gun trader, I have sold and bought person to person with better deals than my LGS. Only requirement is that they are a Texas resident. However I have always sold to folks licensed to carry. If that is allowed in your state then I would sell your Legion out right and buy the 10mm, unless you thing it is going to go fast..

This pistol is all nitron finish with an adjustable rear sight. For the life of me i can't recall what grips it had as i didn't handle it. I have checked SIGs online catalog to see the only 10mm P220 offered is the all camo Hunter model, which doesn't interest me.

I have sold firearms ftf in the past. I really like my Legions but am becoming less enamored with traditional double action.

Me too! If SIG were to make 5" conversions for the P226 and P220 (fixed combat night sights for me) I would get one in every caliber available.

They have a Hogue G10 Piranha in a darker color than the black-gray on the Extreme models.

Not anymore!!

After much thought I decided to buy the P220. Was another nice day for a motorcycle ride to a trip to my favorite (not so) lgs. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, just cleaned it up and lubed it.

Although this pistol isn't in the catalog the born on date is March of this year.

More to come!

You got the P220 10mm black elite?? Awesome!

That model - all models but the Hunter - were Lipsey's distributor exclusives and not regularly-catalogued variants.
Well, and the limited production run of the Gun Talk Radio version.

Yes, all black elite with the G10 grips. Thanks for the info. Really feels great in my hand. I can tell you though that this is one serious piece of artillery....this thing is heavy!!! Been a long time since since I owned my P220ST all stainless. Looking forward to putting some rounds downrange.

you're going to enjoy this fine pistol. as I do my p220-10 with the kryptek camo jacket. the trigger is smooth, brakes clean and is very shootable. i'm an avid hunter and wanted something other than my big heavy revolvers to drag around the woods. this baby sure fits the bill and will keep up the artillery factor.

just over 500 rds down range and not one hiccup.

working up a load of longshot with 180gn xtp. at 9.3gns. I'm at 1294fps. avg. 6.8 sd 18 es. burning cleanly and is a tack driving load. 2.5ins 5 shot groups at 50 yrds off sand bags.

Just returned from the range with it! Results not quite as good as yours, but still pretty satisfied. Will start a new thread.

Lipseys at one point told me that they were only exclusive for a few months. I just wish they would get that freakin scorpion 10mm or 4.4" 10mm out already.

I have given up on the real 10mm hunt ready with the romeo 1.

Sig won't respond to me on facebook since I sent them a message calling them out on the scorpion and 4.4" after this years shot show.

I am expecting my next purchase will be either a STI Perfect 10 in hard chrome, or the XDM 10mm when it comes out.

:):):)Me 2!!! Just scored a Kyptek Hunter myself. Was getting 2" groups offhand at 25 yards with AA#9 and 200 grain CP Rainers the first time I shot it. Really like the fiber/tritium front sight.

Real thumper. If you don't reload when shooting 10mm, you're missing out on accurizing it.

There was a brief period where the all-stainless SAO with rosewood grips, and I think the all black SAO were listed on SIG's site but were taken off after a few months. I never understood what the deal was.

I had read a post a year or so back that quoted a SIG rep as saying there would be no 4.4" 10mm. I've learned not to believe anything until I see it.
