P210 Conversion Kit Box Rebuild

I'm sure everyone here knows the foam rubber in cardboard boxed SIG P210 pistols and conversion kits disintegrate over time. Mine sure did.

I decided to see if I could rebuild one of the conversion kit boxes I have. I finished my first one yesterday. This is for a fixed sight conversion.

Here is what I started with:

I borrowed a nice condition box from a buddy, removed the foam rubber insert, and measured everything:

After some investigation, I discovered that the foam rubber insert is composed to two (2) components. The bottom components is 1/4" thick and the upper component is 3/4" thick. The upper component is cut to accept the conversion kit plus magazine while the bottom component is simply glued to the upper component.

I spent some time on eGhey looking for 1/4" thick and 3/4" thick "gun case foam rubber". I found a reasonably priced roll of 1/4" foam rubber and a group of 3/4" foam rubber sheets that would work for me.

(I used the putty knife to remove the foam rubber from the interior of the box lid.)

I cut a 3/4" thick piece of foam rubber to 8.5" by 4.5". I covered one side with blue painter's tape and drew the outlines of the cutouts I needed. Using a razor knife, I cut out the patters I had just drawn.

I then cut two pieces of 1/4" thick foam rubber to 8.5" by 4.5". Using Elmer's Gorilla Glue, I glued one piece to the bottom of the cut out 3/4" thick piece and the other to the inside of the conversion kit box top.

I let the Gorilla Glue dry for 24 hours.

Here are my final results:

Not too shabby for my first attempt.

Looks nice, if you’ve got another conversion kit and you don’t want to mess with the foam then I’ll take it off your hands😉.
Looks good. I put my original box away and did something similar in a newer plastic box with room for 3 magazines.

Where did you pikc up the closed cell foam? Locally all I can find is the typical open cell.

I found both foam rubber sheets on eBay.

Here is the link to the 1/4" inch stuff. => Durable Foam Rubber Sheet Pad No Adhesive 1/4" Thick x 13" x 80" Sponge Neoprene | eBay

Here is the link to the 3/4" inch stuff. => Lot of 6 Black Polyethylene Foam Sheets (12-5/8" x 6" x 3/4") | eBay

None of the above stuff is mine and have no clue who the sellers are!!!
Thank ya sir!
Nice work MG34Dan. My most recent Swiss SIG came with just a few nasty remnants of the original foam box liner remaining. I didn't have a factory liner to measure, so I just winged it. Wish I had some artistic talent, but at least the box now holds the gun without it just rattling around inside..

Very nice! Do you have some measurements of the cutouts? I have three P210s w/boxes that have disintegrated foam rubber. I was considering getting new foam rubber inserts from Gun Factory or trying to do the cutouts myself. I'm conflicted on which way to go.
MG34Dan, I think if one were more artistic, and a bit steadier than yours truly, a more professional fit and look could be obtained. I wasn't aware of Gun Factory. Do they make factory type inserts for SIG boxes? If so, and I had known about them, I'd have ordered from them. After I bought foam, there was a lot of cut and try just to arrive at "good enough".....

I'd be happy to provide any measurements you might need, but I don't know how close measurements of my foam would be to the factory foam. As I mentioned, I just winged it...

Wow! Those inserts are nice. Makes mine look like jungle workshop grade. Have you determined what CHF 42 plus shipping amounts to?
Well, I finally finished my second conversion kit rubber block rebuild. This one is for my P210 adjustable sight conversion kit. It needed changes to the rubber block for a higher front sight and a rearward placed adjustable rear sight. Plus, I needed space to contain the hammer pack with an installed "Sport Hammer". That made this build somewhat more difficult than my first. I'm not 100% satisfied with my results, but it will hold me over 'till I get the gumption to try it again. Anyway, here are the results:
