I stand corrected @littlejacks. I had my names mixed up. I was calling the piston the op rod. I thought the piston came with the caliber exchange kit that Sig sells. So he would need a barrel and piston to convert to 11.5”. Is that correct @littlejacks ?There are two op rods. One for the rattler and one for everything else. Piston(What comes out the back of the gas block) length is determined by gas system length. With the short op rod, your 11.5 wouldn't have cycled. Without a longer piston, there world be no contact between the piston and rod. I've had several exchange kits but haven't seen one come with an op rod or piston head but admittedly Sig is notorious for changing things mid stream.

Rattler barrel on a Gen-2 MCX
A few weeks ago I started snooping around this thread about MCX barrel fitment and rattler compatibility. You guys pointed out that the only extra part needed to make a rattler barrel work in a regular MCX (Virtus and Gen-2) was the oprod that attached to the BCG. Sig doesn't offer this...www.sigtalk.com
