New P220 Elite recoil spring flat instead of braided?

I was surprised to find a flat recoil spring instead of a braided one in my new P220 Elite. Does that seem right? Is it not true that the braided recoil springs are stronger and make for a smoother action?

Yup. That’s correct. Sig has been using flat springs for a while now.

While true, to a point, Sig tried to find a local vendor to supply braided springs, so not to depend on overseas shipments. Unfortunately, the process seems to be a lost art, on this side of the Atlantic as initial results were mostly failures, so Sig had proceeded to adopt both Flat Wire. and Round Single Wire Springs as replacements.

Thanks, Willard. Where might I still be able to get a few of the braided springs for my P220? (My 1 year old MK25 still came through with the braided spring, and it seems smooth as silk). Would any of your favorite sources still have 1 or 2 available?

Thanks for the info Willard, I found the same recoil spring assembly in my new p220elite and had same question
OP,
The P226 357/40S&W "GREEN" twisted wire recoil spring is the same as used in the P220/P227 45ACP.

That's a good question, since it's been months that they switched over.

The Part # for the Braided Spring is either #34221635 (older P/N) or #1202727-R the latest. UPC was 798681475568, whether that also corresponds to the Flat Wire Spring, Part # 1204139-R, or not, I can't say for sure.

As far as I know, they are still sourcing the Braided Wire Springs for the P226 9mm, but that's about it, the P229 9mm is a Single Round Wire currently painted White, and the P229 .357/.40 is a Flat Wire Spring in "Blue".

Most vendors have shown the Green Braided Wire Spring as Discontinued. While it could be possible they may have some in their parts bins, with their inventory of Flat Wire Springs, their desire to search may be the obstacle. If they have the ability in their inventory system to differentiate by part number, then the above numbers being different, may locate some.

Thanks! I’ll continue searching, and in the meantime train with the new P220 as often as possible to “break in” the flat wire spring.
If you can’t find them anywhere, there are several listed on eBay.

Since originally Sig Sauer recommended Braided Recoil Spring replacement at 5000 round cycles, we don't have any guidance on intervals for either the Single Round Wire (P229 9mm), or Flat Wire (P220 .45/P226 .357 - .40/P229 .357 - .40), I am falling back to the old 1911 guidance of 2000 rounds.

By the same token, I often wonder how many "lubricate" their Braided Wire Springs, as was always brought up in the owners manuals...
