Ya, I vote for J frames also. They’re jumping Judy’s, but with the right grips, quite controllable. Just picked up a pro series 442, jury’s still out whether it’s worth the extra bucks.

I have a 442 Pro. Never have been able to figure out what exactly they do to it to make it anything more than the regular 442. But some Hogue G10 stocks and a Wilson Combat spring kit certainly helped.

HK VP9sk. Walther PDP 4" and i second the j-frames too. i have 2 and they are great dog walking pocket guns. the 938 and 365x are great movie theater carries.

Along with the p238, I’d also vote for Kel tec P32, seacamp 32, SW bodyguard 380, ruger Lcp 380.

Airweight J-frames. I own a 637 and a 442 s&w's.

The P365 is probably the most popular CCW pistol in the country at the moment. Definitely not underrated. The OP was looking for thoughts on what's out there that people often pass over, but are good concealed carry guns regardless. I would say the SCCY CPX-2 is a pretty good bargain, as long as you got one that works.
