It's been a loooong time since I've posted anything. I don't shoot as much as I used to and have been busy making a lot of sawdust. In the meantime, good friend Edsel put me onto a sweet deal for an 18" barrel. Without much thought I got it and so began the project of dusting off the patrol and giving it some steel viagra.

Tear down was straight forward using the dpms wrench. Gas block was pinned with tapered pins. The hard part was getting the block off, which after a month long vertical soaking with kroil and a little nudging from a 2-ton hydraulic press, it came off.

In my excitement, I failed to notice that the new "stock" 18" barrel did not have the holes drilled for the pins. No worries, since that is why we have gunsmiths. Rock on, a few clams later and it's pinned.

Assembled and waiting for the silent capture spring to return from being loaned out and then it's out to the range to see what the extra 2" can produce.

When patrols dream, they dream about being dmr's.

That be like, the epitome of tacticalicity in the classic SIG 716 Patrol platform!

Rock on!

Congratulations, looks great! Is that one of the CDNN barrels that were only $99.99? Will be awaiting your performance report!

It is. I'm on the fence about if they are really "factory". Told Edsel that if it doesn't perform, I'm sending him the bill. .

I'm hoping I can tweak these 400 or so rounds I have made up from the last set up into decently performing shooters.

Finally got to shoot today. I think the 18" barrel made a pretty significant impact. Cycled fine and for just shooting, it grouped well. Need to try at 200 yards.

Awesome post- I bought the $99 CDNN "factory" 716 18" barrel too. It never occurred to me to try to use a regular DPMS wrench- the Sig disinformation tactic to keep me from gunsmithing on my 716 worked. No more!
