MPX with a bit of play on handguard. Looking for advice.

Hey crew, have a very minor issue with an MPX and wanted to get some thoughts on possible resolutions.

I have an MLOK handguard that has a bit of play back and forth. It's about 1mm or less front to back but it's enough that it is a bit annoying. You can push the handguard out and it will expose a gap where it adjoins the receiver. You can then pull back and hear it close the gap and snap against the receiver metal. When you're moving around with the rifle, you'll feel it move slightly.

I was thinking there might be a tensioning adjustment for things like this. Didn't see one. Any ideas how I might tighten that up?

Mine does that too. I’m not sure if that’s normal for all of them or not. I haven’t taken the time to see if it’s fixable yet, but I’ll try to take a look at it and see if there’s any way to tighten it up.
I would call Sig it definetely should not do that. I dont own one but have a few buddies that do and none have that problem.

There is a tiny amount of play in all the rails on the MPX. You gotta keep in mind the only thing keeping the rail on is that little tiny rod pressing on the front take down pin. If you want to tighten it up that rod needs to get bent ever so slightly outwards to apply more pressure on the front takedown pin. Bend it to far and it won’t go into it’s guide hole.
These aren’t ARs and the rails are very different. People expect them to be as tight as an AR rail and well it’s not.
Personally I would leave it alone.

I've heard of some people using a small o-ring to minimize or eliminate the play but I haven't felt the need. You might be able to do a word search on this forum to get more information. It has been discussed before.

That’s a much better plan than my suggestion of trying to bend it a hair.

All great info. So where to you place the o-ring specifically? Anybody had success with that method?

On that tiny little shaft…. Um….In the picture above. It would sandwich between the hand guard shaft base and the upper receiver orifice.

I just tried it. It definitely tightens it up. The o ring for an ar15 extractor works pretty well. The CZ grip screw o ring that I tried first was a bit too thin.

Great to hear. Going to order up a few ar15 extractors and give this a try.

I secured mine with a Surefire SR07 tape switch that mounts to picatinny. I bridged it from the receiver to the rail. It’s a decent temporary fix, especially since I was already running the light and tape switch on there anyway. You could do the same thing with Picatinny ladder covers too.

Yeah, another good idea. Thanks for sharing!

Tried the AR15 o-ring trick and it definitely tightened it up. Not ideal but it'll do. (y)
