I am torn between a dovetail mount or getting the slide milled on my 229 R
Who is a decent quality machine shop for milling a Trijicon base on a slide that will not be cowitness?

USMC6872, I'm not sure why, you would want it mounted directly to your slide, versus using a dovetail mount. If you were to ever want to sell it, you may have less of an audience, or they change the mounting pattern on newer models of their sight. It would be lower I guess, and it's your decision.
I think what I would do is contact Trijicon Customer Service, and see if they have knowledge of a reputable gunsmith, that has experience doing that type of work. One "Woops", is very expensive!

I went with Galloway precision. Slide is currently in their possession. One of my concerns with the dovetail mount is the sight sitting to high. But I was also concerned about the dedicated cut into the slide so I went with the higher end RMR cut.
