Mid size SA/DA Sig for concealed carry?

3926 Views 58 Replies 41 Participants Last post by  BklynIrish
I would like to find a used Sig SA/DA in 9 mm that would be close to the size of my P320 XCompact. What should I be looking for? Thank in advance for the advice!

The P229 Carry (not Classic Carry), with the 3.5-inch barrel and 15-rd full grip, would fit your bill. Finding it would be a little hard and pricey, though, since it's no longer made.

Be easier to find a regular P229 as Nontypical suggested. Also, don't forget the P228, which is the same size as the P229.

If you can put your hands on a P229 Legion Compact, I highly recommend it. Wow! I don't own one, but after handling one I might have to.

While the P229 is a similar size as the P 320, it will not fit into your P320 holster. You will need a P229 specific holster which is a topic in itself. Also, the p229 will weigh more than the P320. My P229 in 357 sig weighs about 5 ounces more than my P320 in 357 sig. and 7 ounces more than my P320 X Compact in 9 mm.

how about a SIG 239 in 357 SIG, if you can find 1.

I’ve been carrying concealed the P229 (9mm and 357) for over 2 decades. Not the lightest option but not overly heavy either. High capacity, deadly accurate, and super reliable.

Easier to find a 239 in 40, and look for a 357 barrel.

depends on the holster. My 229 fits perfectly in my Sneaky Pete holster for a 320C

This is definitely true. Purebred 357 in anything hammer fired has gotten increasingly difficult in certain models.

I guess it depends on your definition of "midsized". Is that a P228/229 - or something smaller?

Personally, I love my P224.

If you shoot accurately consider looking for a P225-A1. It is 9mm. It has an 8 rounds magazine so if you load to chamber you have 9 rounds. Given it is not a 12 or 15 rounds pistol, I mention being a good shot. Plus I think FBI stats state most encounters where a firearm is used in self defense only about 3 rounds or so are fired. Don’t get me wrong, I have a P229 Legion with both 9mm and 40/357 slides and it is a nice gun to carry as well. But depending on the size of your hand, mine are medium, you might have better grip around the single stack P225-A1. I am glad I picked a new one up 3 years back. They will be hard to find now, maybe.

For me, the P224 falls into the “sub-compact” category. Same with the 365.

Cool. Please send me a picture of your P229 in a Sneaky Pete. Maybe with something for a size reference. I use the Sneaky Pete with my P365 all the time. Wore it to church today. Does it seem large on your belt for the P229?
I’d say go with p239 in any caliber. Much slimmer and easier to carry than any version of p228/p229/p224/p320

don’t have any pics and will be out in Hawaii next few weeks. You can probably get an idea from the Sneaky Pete site. I also use a Sneaky Pete for a 224 for my 224. They did not have one for a 229 when I purchased. Neither feels large to me. The 320C is only slightly larger than the 224 holster.

Along with a 9mm barrel, too! That's the beauty of a P239 in one of the major calibers, 357 or 40. You can run all three calibers in the one pistola!

Thanks. Enjoy your trip. I like the Sneaky Pete with my P365. But it is not much larger than what a lot of people carry a cell phone in, so no one every questions it. I just didn't know if the P229 would be a lot larger.
