Ordered 4 mags from a name retailer after emailing and asking if they were
in fact SIG mags. Was told they were. Received them today and they are Meg-
Gar made in Italy mags. Real disappointed in this retailer and won't be giving
them my business again.
My question is: Do these mags have a rep good or bad? Never used Meg-Gar
before.
Thanks,
Dano

Thanks guys. I'll be 68 next month. Been carrying non-militarywise since I
first became a cop in Washington DC in 69 after 13.5 months in Nam. Own
over 40 handguns and unless some manufacturer has snuck a Meg-Gar in
under their own logo, I've never used Meg-Gar that I know of. Nice to know
I didn't just waste over 100 bucks on mags.:)
I'll run them thru the gun a few times before I put them in my EDC.
Thanks again,
Dano

You want Mec-Gar. Sig branded mags are made by Checkmate these days. Mec-Gar is better. The Checkmates that came with my MK25 are range mags. My carry mags are all Mec-gar.
Actually Sig currently buys mags from both Mec-Gar and Checkmate and both are branded "Sig Sauer".

Example of two brand new mags bought about 3 weeks ago,

You will not be disappointed with Mec-Gar.
And thank you for your service military and law enforcement. Sir.
At 70 I remember those times.

Love the Mec-Gar mags... all of my friends actually prefer them over the "Sig" branded mags. Mec-Gar has also been making OEM mags, on and off, for so many companies for years. Zero hesitation IMO... I like them better with my CZ too!

I walked a beat in DC back when only cars had radios. Beat cops had a brass
key to a call box. If you made an arrest, you had to drag the perp at least a
block one way or the other to a call box, cuff him to a pole and call for a paddy
wagon. Many times, especially during all the riot in the late 60's and early
70's, you had to fight off a dozen of his/her homies trying to take the perp
away from you. Being an officer is trying at anytime, but a lot of the younger
officers will never know what being alone walking a beat as a cop was. I've
had my ***** saved by hookers more than by other cops back then. ;) You
connected with the community you served in a way today's cops will never
know. I actually feel sorry for the younger officers.

And thank you for the kind words.

Why not?

So looking at the Mec-Gar website they show nothing for a P227---does that mean they don't supply them to Sig for new gun sales?
No. Mec-Gar does make the P227 mags. But SIG has contracts with them that prevents them from selling the same mags under their name that they sell to SIG to ship with SIG's name on them. Mec-Gar would have to make a different-capacity mag to sell for the P227. And we already have had enough problems with the 14-rounder.

That's why you don't see Mec-Gar selling 15-round P226 9mm mags. But they sell 18-round and 20-round P226 9mm mags.

And their 18 round flush fit mags are the best you can buy anyway

Mec-Gar has been making mags for SIG for years. Good quality.

I like to see the "Made in Italy" engraving on the mag.

Mec Gar makes the "good" Sig mags. When buying a new Sig, I always try to get the MecGar ones and often ask the dealer if I can swap out the mags with other Sigs if not MecGar. When buying mags without buying a new Sig, i go straight to MecGar and do not order from Sig, I just buy MecGar ones straight out. For the record, I don't recall having much issue with the Checkmate mags but for some reason always liked the MecGar ones better. As mentioned above, frequently the only markings on the MecGar Sig mags when bought from Sig or with a weapon is "Made in Italy".

Am I missing something here? Did I misread what you wrote? I have bought 15 round P226 9mm mags that are Mec-Gar mags. I'm now confused but that's not difficult to confuse me.
