Debated posting in here or starting a new thread, decided this would be better. I have my name on a list for a West Germany marked P228. I am trying to figure out what the proof mark next to the serial number on the frame is. I only have potato quality photos since they were posted by the dealer and no image of the chin. I just can’t make out the mark. Thoughts?

That's a "Nitro" Definitive Proof Mark from Ulm to the right of the SN.

Here's some additional marks.

AF is probably '96.

As a general (and pretty accurate) rule with P229s, the second letter is the production year, with "A" being 1991. With very rare and non-sequential prototype exceptions, the earliest production P229 serial numbers start with AB, as the P229 was released in 1992. There will always be exceptions and "odd-balls", but I've found that this system seems to work on across the board on the early P229s.
Thanks. Thought I'd look into my first Sig, a 229 .40. Numbers both start with AB. Still have some more detective work to go...

if you go by this chart "a"makes for '90!!
Looks like my first Sig is from 1991 then. Interestingly? Mine doesn't have any of those other stamps in the photo you posted.
