Lifetime Warranty

1409 Views 20 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  flwing
I always thought Sigs carried a lifetime warranty on the firearm, but it actually turns out it's the lifetime of the original purchaser. So I'm wondering, if a Sig needs repairs or replacement, how does Sig know you're the original owner, does Sig ask for a receipt or some proof of purchase?

They know you are the original owner because you fill out the registration card that comes with the gun and send it to them.

Not every original owner does that. In fact, I'll wager that the majority do not.

This is my experience as well, so most likely a nearly new Sig will also be able to benefit from a factory warranty :).
Do not send any warranty cards from any purchase. Good way to have info sold and get a mailbox full of junk. Not that I think Sig would do any such thing. If I had to send in an item for warranty work, a phone call and ask if want my warranty card.

i am amazed what a high percent of my used Sig acquisitions were never registered by the previous owner. A nice bonus.

Nope. I have lots of Sigs, and the only ones I have registered are my Legion and Custom Works FCU'S to obtain the discount code. Otherwise for warranty work I just call CS, provide SN and that's it. I've never had an issue getting my Sig's serviced.

I think all you need is your receipt and you're covered. No need to "register". If I ever get turned down for warranty service because I didn't "register", that'll be the end of any purchases by me of their products.

The one benefit to registering for warranty close to your purchase date is it likely speeds up the process if you have to call customer service. They already have my email address, shipping address, and the serial numbers for my P365 fcus on file. Both times I've had to call were really quick phone calls. I'm on my third front sight for my P365 and it took two months to get the replacement for the one they sent back the first time, but, despite their lack of supply of replacement front sights, the customer service experience was very hassle free. I didn't have to say much when I called.

I have registered every Sig I purchased on line and I have never ran into any issues with spam mail or work requests. I've even registered a used Sig I bought that the previous owner neglected to do. Used to get a 20% discount code for registering, but those days are gone. Seems to be an individual choice.

I do register on line, not by mail. So I am not as old school as you think, you young whippersnapper. :ROFLMAO:

The nature of the repair will determine if the work is covered under that warrenty. For a minor issue they will not investigate the ownership status. Something major or a unit made many years ago and they will require proof of ststus.
I would expect the manufacturer to repair or replace unless there are signs of obvious abuse.

Warranty cards are used by the marketing department.

You can register Sigs online and the paper cards aren’t worth spit. So if I ever sell one of mine.. yes, it will have the card with it.. But I already registered it.

After a Sig is a year old typically, you need to, pay to ship it back and forth no matter the warranty.
