That is the short extractor, and it is supposed to look like that

If you're talking about the extractor on the side, that is how it is designed.

Thanks was cleaning it after another flawless range visit, and didn't recall it ever looking like that before. Age must be getting the better of me.

This is what it looks like out of the gun, with the claw part on the right side bottom. This extractor assembly has 3 parts: extractor, pin, and spring. The part in your pic that you see in the hole is the pin.
