Is this a safe/realistic MPX K config?

This is just a mockup at this point. Say what you will about the aesthetics. Anyhoo I have no experience with tucking my full-length Obsidian 45 inside the 14" Midwest Industries handguard, nor with mounting a light (not shown) 1 mlok slot from the front and directly underneath said suppressor to account for heat rising. Am still I running a risk of roasting my $290 Modlite or ruining the front sight somehow? The suppressor sits roughly 3/4" short of the handguard but I could perhaps live with that.

I'm also pondering putting the 4.5" handguard back on with a T-Rex light bar and a suppressor wrap.

Which would you choose, or would you set this up some other way? The suppressor and light and non-negotiable.

That looks pretty cool. How much space is between the suppressor and the handguard? Is the front sight plastic? My Hybrid 46 doesn't get that hot. I mean I wouldn't touch it but I'm not sure it would damage anything. You have the option of getting some thin aluminum and making heat shields to fit in where the light and sight will be. Just like inside A2 handguards. If you have something you use the suppressor on I would go out and shoot it like you plan to and take some temperature readings on it. See how hot it really gets.
I'm pretty sure you can make it work if you want to.
(My face is not in front of the muzzle by the way) :giggle:

Space in between seems plentiful since the Obsidian is pretty slender. The front sight is a metal Magpul with Superluminova. I guess there's only one way to find out how it'll hold up against intense heat. I hadn't considered a heat shield, do you mean some kind of metallic tape?

I probably wouldn't do tape. I would use some thin aluminum sheet and cut and bend it to shape. You could hold it in place with some m-lok hardware.

Yep! Easy too!

Or another approach is use a spacer or offset bracket for the light. As long as it's on the
bottom and not against the hand guard you should be fine.

Not necessarily this one but you get the idea.......

I have an Arisaka inline scout mount already, with plans to route either this Modbutton, a Unity Hotbutton or a Surefire DS07 back to somewhere in or around a foregrip for ambidextrous activation. I don't know if I have the fab skills to make a heat shield, I don't think it should be too hard to hold it in place?

I've seen a lithium battery explode in a buddy's face from vaping. He was fine but damn it scared the bejeezus out of us. It was like an M80 firecracker for a split second before it turned into a roadside flare.

I’m not really understanding the tuck the entire suppressor in the rail thing. All the additional weight is a big negative.

It's twofold: First is to get the light as close as possible to the muzzle for no suppressor shadow. Second is to maximize rail space for a foregrip, possibly a light button if needed.

Of course it'll weigh a bit, but the theorized positives of zero suppressor shadow + max rail space might outweigh the single negative of added weight for a home defense carbine. I won't know until I try. Everything is a compromise.
So cool ..

I have seen it done a number of times. As said, pros and cons. I think it looks pretty sleek if done well. The real con for me is that the suppressor kind of becomes permanent as you will probably have to pull the handguard to get it off. Unless you maybe used a tri-lug.

The MPX hand guard is very easy to remove fortunately. Slide back the front take down pin and it comes right off.

Now that is information I was unaware of. I have not stepped into the MPX, MCX realm yet. I will have to save my pennies first.

I couldn’t say if the MCX does it as I don’t own one.. The MPX is my wheel house. I have taken it apart so many times, when I had it Cerakoted and any time someone comes on here with an issue. I’ll take mine apart to figure out the problem.

Looks clean, but long. What’s the length of your suppressor?
I’m hoping to attach a 5” suppressor to the 4.5” barrel and have it fit inside an 8” handguard. Similar to your set up to gain some purchase area and rail space, but still have some suppressor exposed. Good points about heat transfer and shadow, I’ll have to keep that in mind.
Just a thought, looks like you could run the 10.5 handguard and still have your light in the same spot. It'd expose about 2" of can. As mentioned, it's easy to remove the MPX/MCX handguard.
I used a Lancer guard to bury a suppressor and mount a light since day one. Never a thing
The 45 is 8.6" but if I had the 7.8" Obsidian 9, I could get the handguard cut to more closely line up with the muzzle. I probably won't bother with another pistol can since I really want something for my rifle next.

I think once I Form 1 this home defense gun then I'll shift focus to my rifle. It's a Stag which is ok but I'm hankering for something higher up the food chain, probably a Noveske. Anyway I'm going to fiddle around with some heat shielding at some point and see how it goes.

And, makes it tough to tighten/make adjustments to the suppressor if you ever have to - sure does look cool when it's NOT firing though, lol.
