Icarus Precision SOCOM Blue Line model- 'hello nasty'

So..
.
.
.

I fell out of like with my P365XL. I don't value light guns and I stopped carrying 9mm for EDC.. so I sent off the Icarus XL PRO grip to a friend and will be dumping the P365XL for cheap, soon. Blatant caliber snobbery engaged- I'm back to .40 for range, then (10mm X TEN) and .357 Sig for EDC.

OUT of the box, the Icarus grip fit and finish are impeccable.. ignore the paw prints and odd lighting effects, in the pictures. ;D I pulled them apart after shooting both, for the pics.

The grip feels amazing.. plain and simple. When I locked my left palm into the space left by my right fingers and thumb, it snapped in place like an FCU.. it's almost like they designed the SOCOM grip to provide apex level control and usability.

I've only shot a handfull of 2011 and don't really have a functional frame of reference but that's what the Icarus Precision web text states that the SOCOM model was modeled after. I must really like 2011s.. want a Staccato but meh hammers and lol $$ dollars..

Addon grip panels aside, the Icarus SOCOM Blue Line grip feels similar to the AXG, as far as how it points. I stacked them up to see if the lines matched and they were more similar than not but the SOCOM feels different. The back of the grip feels fuller than the AXG..not as 'full' as a P226.. but with 'similar' full palm feel (without being 'buffet' full).

I know from grabbing it and dryfiring that I'm going to like the SOCOM.. I'm headed up to my local range here shortly.. I've been drawing from holster/ dryfiring all morning.

Between the two, in current config, they'll serve different purposes. I'll probably use the SOCOM for woods and long days out in the wilds of the cities and country. I like heavy guns but after 6 hours scaling hills, foraging.. imo, an extra half pound can make a difference in your pack and on your back.

The first pic is with both guns stacked. There's another, with both stacked in reverse.. maybe you can draw some comparisons but it's not super relevant as they are- different grips.

Height, width, similar between the two.. obv. specs available on the Icarus site. The Icarus may be a few ounces heavier than the AXG, with stock grips. It looks like there could be a weighted option for the SOCOM grip, (opening in bottom behind mag).. maybe even something as Red Green as WC titanium weights and JB weld. ;D kind of joking but also kind of :O not.

* Hello Nasty was the 5th release from the Beastie Boys (RIP Adrock) and a fitting title for this shameless reviewvertisement.

To be clear, I have no connection to the fantastic Icarus Precision team, outside of blathering at them endlessly in email, asking questions ranging from model variations, to whether I should try to build wax wings and fly off this island, I've been banished to. They weren't helpful with the latter and I might have confused everyone there for a bit with my 'advanced thematic questions' and commentary.

I'm a big fan of Icarus Precision. I have them on three of my P320's. This new one looks just as amazing as their other ACE models. If Icarus releases a full-sized model for the XTen, I will likely get it, unless Sig releases a compatible AXG grip module before them.

Ditto on the X TEN, first one to market gets my $

I asked them and the reply was to the effect of, 'we'll see' based on numbers and uptake.

I have no insight into their runs, engineering roadmap, how many they need to do, per run to make a profit etc.. But I think any grip option that adds weight and tactile functionality to the OEM option, especially for 10mm, will be in high demand..

.. but then again, 'many' things are obvious to me, that aren't cardinal or even widely held views. like, rat fur lined bath tubs.. kind of sounds neat when you hear about them but in application it's difficult to adhere the skin to the tub and even when you do and spend the extra time to make it look nice, you still have to deal with soap scum, hard water and the evevitable build up of a slick film on the fur lining that makes getting in and out a slippery whoops likely event.

Some folk have a latex allergy, or say they do but I have a poly gun allergy. When I carry one, I get itchy.. I'll just use benadryl until some enlightened team pukes out an alloy or better, an ALL STAINLESS option.

Would you consider the Icarus Precision grip to have a wider overall grip circumference than the AXG (are the LOK grips standard or large?)? I ask this question as a person who prefers the circumference of an x-series small over the x-series medium, albeit the difference is small. I recently acquired and AXG module and the ‘medium’ grip is not my favorite but I do appreciate the aluminum weight difference over polymer. Your post has me thinking on the Icarus.

Thanks @imbue.

the LOK grips I got didn't offer a size or a roughness option but they did have the palm swell.. so, Large I guess... holding both, I can't really feel that one has a greater circumference. when gripped, the distance between my fingers and palm and the space it leaves on the grip, feels about the same. I'll follow up after I put a few hundred rounds through the SOCOM.

Like you I prefer the small size for XSeries grip. That is what I'm running on my M18. For the others I'm running either AXG, or Icarus. I find the Icarus kind of in between the AXG and small XSeries, but with the benefits of an aluminum grip. I'd say if you like the AXG, you will really like the Icarus ACE Carry size grip module. Notice the area top of grip, on the Icarus; that shelf/cut area is really comfortable for thumb placement. Below you can see a side by side comparison of the AXG (left), and Icarus ACE Carry (right).

Ok, got it. Thank you sir for the added info.

Thanks for the time spent to set and take the side by side photo. Thumb comfort is one of the main points for me when assessing x-small vs x-medium. That shelf‘s relief very well may be a solution.

Do you mind posting a pic of the Icarus Thin Blue Line with the slide on and a 17 round mag in? I’m trying to choose between this frame and the 320 SOCOM Carry.
Thanks
