How would you upgrade this Rifle Collection?

2458 Views 38 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  GLD1980
I don't have a large gun collection. I prefer simplicity and stock only the tools necessary for my needs. I feel I have some redunancy so I've been thinking about upgrading a few of my AR's. Possibly on the chopping block are my two Springfields and my Ruger. The three all represent some of the best available AR products from their respective manufacturers and are most likely considered mid teir has equipped but is there more to be had? I feel they all punch above their class. Or with what I currently plan to keep, should I downsize and get a suppressor and more ammo, especially .300BO ammo with their proceeds? I can always keep them all and just wait till I am in position to fulfill my additional requirements.

What are your thoughts? What would you do?

I think you have "holding" on exactly what I'd do also. With the chaos going on tho I'd hesitate to sell even those with all the bans being spoke of. Unless you plan to sell them and buy some more lowers maybe. I too need more 300 rounds. I need to hurry up and get set up to reload them also.

That's a unique setup bud. Nice. How does weapon shadow affect where you have that light?

Right. I put mine on a 45 also today. I have a few others that way also but I try to put them out front so the barrel don't block any light. It's nice to be able to reach it that close I'm sure tho to operate the buttons. Only other problem is when shooting off of barriers. If your light isn't on top you'll have to expose yourself more to light targets. The best I've tried in that regard are the DBAL style lights that mount behind the front sights. Which honestly I may get more of those next time for that reason alone. I have a SightMark brand one on my mpx and it actually works great. I have an Inforce one on my small Rattler. But I don't like it on top because it's not enough room and I don't want to slide my front sight back even more to use it on top. So I may get another Sightmark for it too. I'm experimenting now with a streamlight laser light combo. But it's size makes it have to be a 45 mount also. But it's a bright mofo tho. Anyways I'm always experimenting and learning so I figured I'd ask bud thanks

@GLD1980 I tried some rubber rails on mine. And man it's nice. It's makes you just want to C-clamp it lol. I found a neat way to run wires too with it. I just notched under one and ran em thru. Works pretty good. I'm still deciding if I like a big light with a switch tho. But I like this setup now so much I'm debating on whether to even put a dot on it. I may just keep it with irons. Figured I'd show ya while I was thinking about it tho!

In response tho to may be "needed" tho in your original post. I don't see a PCC anywhere. A 9mm MPX may be in oder eventually just for some cheap range time. Or maybe a 320 pistol and an AR that will share its mags. Other than that you look plenty good collection. You have me beat

How do you compare the 2 Saints as far as barrel length? Noise, accuracy? I have a 16 inch Saint and really like it. I’ve considered the same with a shorter barrel. Thanks

Same thought I had. A nice PCC. MPX being my first choice ;)

Me? I'd shoot 'em till they didn't look like part of an unfired collection myself.

Yep agreed. I love my MPX-K. Looks like the man needs a Ruger 10-22 also btw. Also for plinking cheap and Sh TF uses.

Very nice collection. Don’t sell any of them. I sold some once and have regretted it ever since. You will find a way to get that can and ammo I’m sure. With the political climate right now, it’s not a good time to get rid of anything. Oh yeah, buy an MPX K you won’t regret it one bit.

I had a few AK's but grew out of them in favor of 5.56 and the AR. I am of the mindset of whatever I would need an AK for my 556R or my Canebrake can cover along with the rest of my 7.62 short needs. I am a believer in the future of .300BO and look forward to investing more into that round. If I need more I'll go with 7.62x51 as I don't need more at the moment.

@DAS Hugh! I used to have a Stribog but with all the chances of running up against a threat wearing armor or hiding behind barriers I didn't want to be under gunned. I understand a fair amount in regards to 9mm terminal ballistics and feel it's more than adequate for a handgun but much more is needed for a gunfight against a well trained opponent wearing body armor and bringing more to the fight IMO. A PCC is simply not enough and that is just my humble opinion. It definitely made me want more. It's the first time I've ever had little Richard syndrome. I ended up swapping an M1A SOCOM16 and the Stribog for a 716G2 Patrol and a 365XL. Both play way better to my needs. I also now have the Canebrake .300BO to go with my Saint Vic PDW 5.56 5.5" to cover the small and powerful. I sleep better at night. A suppressor and NODs and I'll be great😁!

Wow several of you really dig that MPX-K. I seriously would rather invest in another Rattler or a Virtus TACOPS or something same platform mag type you know....

So why the K and not MORE guys?

@hauki
My Saint Victor PDW is as quiet or more quiet than my Saint Edge Pistol. The PDW has the Maxim HateBrake and the Edge pistol has a SureFire Warden DT. Both are effective making both guns sound less than my 16" AR. I wouldnt want to hear that concussion indoors but then again my hearing is already shot out.

it might cover in that role, but it’s kind of boring.
