How to date my P226?

460 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Rareair
I would love to know the date of manufacture of my p226, serial U939 xxx, however it is made in Germany and there is no one to ask there now and Sig USA state on their website that they do not respond to e-mails from outside the US.

A photo may help, has it possibly been proofed? Check the left side of the Barrel, on the chamber...

Member 12131 has reported a X6E Supermatch, U 938 XXX with a Proof of "BH", which is from 2017, and a X5E Open U 941 XXX also with a "BH" proof, so your pistol likely "BH" proofed too, so 2017 date of birth. If you had the cardboard sleeve rhe case was shipped in, it may actually have a label with the date... similar to this.

^^^^ The year is about as close as he can get. The 3 small labels on the box shown above, one with the date, are SIG USA's. The larger label under those three is SIG DE's. OP is from France, based on the flag, so I highly doubt his box label will have the actual date like the one imported here by SIG USA.

Anyway, his P226 should have the 2-letter date code somewhere, most likely on the left side of the barrel hood.

P226 U939, should be a 2017

You can also get a "hint" if it has stock grips, as the grips have a date pointer on the inside surface. Sometimes and earlier mfg'd grip is used, but most often it's a good place to start.

Nothing is more definite than the proof date code, which must be present on the gun. France is one of the CIP member countries.

Bring flowers, have a definite plan of where to go and what to do, and treat it with respect. Don't forget to walk it to the door after, too.
Somehow this thread's heading strangely has "Sticky", but it's obviously not stickied.

Thanks for your replies gents. I’ll have another look over the gun and under the grips after breakfast.
The box yields no date.

Well i had another look at the proof mark on the barrel and I can see it has been proofed in Kiel in Germany but it appears to be stamped with the number and letter 9H so i remain confused as from reading here, I was expecting to find two letters as a date code.

EDIT...Got it now BH, when I looked at it as the rest of the stamp , poorly done, it becomes clear. So exactly as Bumper and Willard say 2017. Cheers .

Mystery solved. Happy now.

I was going to suggest a box of ammo, instead of flowers. Take her out shooting, show her off to friends and family. Take her out on special occasions.
