I don't see any picture and am not familiar with this marking.

What's the model description on the case? That may be beneficial, or wait till Monday and contact CS with SN#.
If the 08 signifies 2008, was the M11A1 even introduced that early?
Since the M11A1 is a "Military type model" ala M11, the "JS" in "JSR" could mean "Joint Services"... anything significant in 2008 occur "military wide" besides Obama?

Just throwing some stuff, to see if anything "sticks"... Lol

I would guess it might be some sort of military unit commemorative engraving. Sig had (or has) a program where they offered this type of engraving. The markings inside the slide seem odd though.

I had a Sig 1911 with some unit markings from Operation Enduring Freedom. I'll see if I can find pictures.

Can't find any good pictures right now but the one I had was engraved with "Diehard OEF XII-XIII" on the right side of the slide and had a unit crest engraved on the top of the slide.

When I was researching the one I had it appears sometimes guys who served together in combat would purchase these as commemorative pieces when they were done with their tours. Sometimes they would also get memorial pieces for fallen friends.

Like I said, I don't know if yours is something like this. The one I had was.

Other than the engraving on the piece itself, mine wasn't any different than a standard model. The sticker on the box wasn't any different than a stock model.
I see, so what you're saying is this might not be a actual Sig special edition engraved gun but a personalized memorial or ??? gun that some individual put together maybe to honor "JSR". Makes sense

Yeah, but I'm just guessing. Perhaps "JSR" was one of the guys that didn't make it home back in 2008 and the guys that did make it back purchased handguns in his memory. I'll see if I can find some info about Sig's program.

But why it's engraved inside the slide puzzles me.

Here's some info from Sig's website.

Like I said, I'm not sure if the pistol in question was part of this program and only the original owner (or perhaps Sig) would really know. I could be totally wrong. I know several people and shops in my area who do laser engraving and I could walk in any time and have just about anything engraved on any of my firearms or knives.
