Help with P229 CA Compliant

1125 Views 16 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  ravish5150
Hello Group
I bought a P229 CA compliant 9mm a couple months ago and decided to order the RXP slide assembly with Romeo1 Pro on it from SIG in stead of machining the original slide. I received it yesterday, put my barrel and recoil pin and spring in and tried it on my pistol.I can manually pull the slide back, but it feels at a certain point it's hitting something and I can not pull it all the way back to bring it to the lock position. Did anyone run into this problem or any ideas?
When i put both slides next to each other , the only difference i notice on the inside is that the machined groove at the top back of the slide is a little deeper on the original slide.

Thanks

The key here, is how high does the rear of the Barrel, tilt up into the Ejection Port for lockup, of the new Slide, compared to the original.

That's why Sig says "Some fitting may be required"!

That's about the best I can do, with just a few words as clues.

Photos always help to see what's going on, but being so new, you aren't aware. The old addage one picture is worth a thousand words still holds true today.

Before you start carving metal off of your barrel, visit the Gunsmithing STICKY section, that has videos covering the subject, "fitting a barrel" that we agree with. Just because someone can make a video, doesn't mean they know what they are doing!

Looks like a P226 slide on the right. P229 has a 3.9" barrel, while the P226 has a 4.4" (0.5" longer) barrel.
No they are both P229 exact same dims and laser engraved
i think that picture just makes one look longer.
i have not had any issues, but my slide kits came with barrel/guide/spring and i didn't try swapping them around.
After lots of wiggles and lube it suddenly broke loose and the slide goes into the lock position and know moves back and forth fine. I don’t see and scratching or scraping inside
Ill test it at the range tomorrow ….. big relieve
Thanks for your help !

I just installed one of these on my E2 frame, and it fit perfectly. Glad your unit is working properly.
That's a hell of an optical illusion! 😄

Uh....agreed. One is clearly longer than the other.
i think maybe the one on the right is sitting higher and closer to the camera.
Your "hangup" may have been the SRT Safety Lever, if equipped. Again without photos, it's hard to say.

Is it possible that the mag-disco is slightly interfering?

That shouldn't have any effect on the Slide travel, only the Trigger Bar travel...

I've run into this when fitting a 9mm RXP slide to a .40 frame. With mine, the firing pin safety plunger was catching on the frame. I used a pencil to push it up and it's fine now. It is only an issue of reassembly and in my case, does not impact use or safety.
If this pistol has the Short Reset Trigger Kit installed, follow the procedure in Appendix C, of the Owners Manual...
