I am looking at a used US built P226 in .40 sig with serial #47A204099. Any idea of an approximate build date and if the "A" designation has any significance other than chronological. I have not held it yet but it looks almost new.
In an effort to provide this information, not available elsewhere with more recent manufacture dates, I'd like to start compiling a list of serial numbers and manufacture dates by model on SIG handguns manufactured in 2005 or later. If you would like to contribute, please post the serial number...
You can also contact SIG Sauer Customer Service, by phone or email. They will happily look up your serial number and give you the info they have. Note that their database only goes back to about 2004.
If it’s in pristine condition priced very well I wouldn’t wait too long. It’s a 40 so not generally urgent but if priced abnormally low, someone will scoop that baby up and drop a 357 barrel in her.

So likely around October 2016 Date Of Birth...
As far as the "A" in 47A, is usually the first in the 47 sequence, then "B", and "C", and so forth... for some reasons it may seem that they skip a letter, but then it may be delegated to a large contract with many thousands of units.
Thank you for the additional input. I have a Legion 9mm P226 from mid 2017 that has a 47Cxxxxx s/n so 2016 makes sense. Also have 22 LR, .40 and .357 barrels and associated slides for the 226 (and 229). The .40 just showed up at my local and it is in such great shape, well, you guys know how it is. It would run me a little over $800.
Yeah, $800 is on the line. Ideally I would prefer to just have another frame and .40/.357 slide but with the cost of the component parts being so high (or unavailable) it seems to make sense to buy a complete firearm. Being able to buy locally also balances out the overall cost when c/c and GB fees, shipping and timing are factored in.
Yep! All the spare parts you need are installed and can be cannibalized in the future if parts are not available. Fortunately, spare parts are available if you want to grab some for future replacement.
Thank you for the additional comments. I will check it out closely on Friday and then probably try to avoid walking by that case again until the fever subsides.
Bad news. This type of fever doesn’t subside. It just gets worse and worse until you feed it.
