I’m searching for my first 5.56 rifle. I’ve shot mostly pistols and shot guns my whole life. Been shooting on/off 46 yrs.
I Own;
my Dads Colt Mustang .380,
S&W Shield EZ 9, (reminds me of my service gun)
savage over/under .22/20Ga, (my Dad got it for me when I was 12!)
Stoeger inertia 20Ga for clay shooting, Antonio Zoli .58Cal, reproduction musket, (for show),
and a Kel Tec sub 2KGEN2 in the Glock 19 version, with a whole bunch of upgrades.

I consider myself lucky to be an American and support everyone whom makes this country great!

Welcome from Illinois, you’ve found a great place here!
There are a lot of fantastic 556’s to be found out there. The Sigs I own aren’t in production any longer so I can’t offer much advice on the current lineup. I think I’d look hard at the Springfield Saint personally.

Thanks, the Saint is on my list also, so is the S&W 5.56 sport2, price is really good on the smith, plus their doing $100 rebate right now. But I’m afraid I’ll upgrade it and spend just as much as Sig or Saint!

Welcome from Arizona!🌅

Thinking harder why I want an AR, and how I might use it, I might just drop down to a lower price range. I really just want one that’s affordable and reliable out of the box. Home and personal defense is rather secondary, since I would rely more on my 9mm pistol. My rifles and shotguns are usually locked up, (we have 5 little grandchildren). As far as plinking, I like to stick to weapons that use less expensive ammo, like my 9mm PCC, regular 9mm pistols and 22’s. After looking at some more reviews, I have Also added these to my lower budget list:
Kel Tec SU16E
Diamond Back DB15
Anderson AM1

Has anyone had any experience with the above?
